Anyone been here? I just stumbled on it.

My pick is that Kerry , Gore, and Hillary don't make it.
This coming from a strong Kerry supporter!

1. In 1989, the only thing Bill Clinton was known for...
...was his long-winded nomination speech for Dukakis at the 1988 DNC. In 1973, Jimmy Carter was only known for being a southern moderate who was tried to block George McGovern's nomination in 1972.

It's very likely our next nominee isn't even on the radar yet.

2. I hate to say it, but I think 2004 was Gore's last opportunity
I really wanted him to run, he would have won, again, but it just seems he'd be to easily painted as someone now of "the past."

Kerry - I really came to admire him last year, and I think he has a shot at 2008, for the same reasons Gore had a great shot in 2004, maybe not as strong, but the same dynamic is there.

Hillary - I hope not. Not on the ticket at all. She'd motivate the right mroe than the left, I think. Sad but true, imho.

I'm thinking Richardson - maybe Richardson/Landreiu (sp?)?

in New Mexico. Why did he do that? Was it so he could run in '08?

12. Will they change their tunes if this admin finds itself in a
Watergate-type scandal?

What saddens me the most about our dem leaders is that they fail to recognize the simple premise that we won the election and they stole it. That means our message was the most popular, the nation is made up of more liberals than neo-cons. If they would recognize that, they would not be moving for the center, they would be standing on the left and welcoming our votes with open arms.

23. Edwards
Edwards is doing exactly the right thing -- starting a movement to improve this country instead of staying in the weeds. This is the key to motivating the country behind things we all care about. His ant-poverty and work movement will be the story of 2008, IMHO.

26. Edwards/Warner
Both young, attractive, squeaky clean background. Self-made millionaires...no silver spoon guys. Maybe it'll take two southern gentlemen to win the south back to the Democrats. After all...Clinton/Gore were two southern gentlemen and they won twice!

If Kerry could lose running against "W" and we need someone else.

Kerry is a great senator but just didn't cut it on the national level.

20. it's not about shoving her down anyones throat, it's about fundraising
for themselves.

bring up hillary and the right wing nuts go crazy and they get riled up and feel they must do something and start giving money to Republicans and other right wing groups.

it's just like the whole thing where they made a big thing out of Kerry being from the northeast and from massachusettes and the french metrosexual crap. it plays to the right wingers hatred or fears and gets them to give money.

with hillary all it takes is just mentioning her name.

24. Mobilization--two birds with one stone.
They get their most virulent supporters donating early to beat a threat from a candidate that is pretty vulnerable.

They don't need to spend lots to to defeat her, they have the MSM for that (and they will), so they build up lots of funds for the midterms.

21. I do believe they see her as beatable
They're pushing her because they think she'd be relatively easy to smear and beat. She's already painted as an uberliberal almost socialist because of the health care issue.

Oddly she reminds me of Kerry: too right for the left and to left for the right. I don't think she has a ghost of a chance. But the RW keep bringing up her name and touting her as having a strong chance.

I think she will be the frontrunner until someone actually casts a vote. And then they will see.

17. Ugh! I just don't get the support for her!
She's NOT a pleasant woman. I tend to agree it may be some unknown, but I have to say if the DNC doesn't start putting a really reputable Democrat front and center almost immediately they are really foolish. I think their method of keeping these guys under cover until the last moment is killing us! A new leader should incorporate a new strategy and I'd like to see them start getting their free publicity now!

6. Way too early to predict
Whether Kerry can get the nomination again depends a lot upon what he does the next few years. He is working towards acting like a true opposition party, even talking to Tony Blair about this. If he is effective in going after Bush as he was in fighting Nixon on Vietnam and Reagan on Iran Contra, then he could wind up as a major contender. If he becomes just another junior Senator, then his chances are remote.

Gore probably missed his chance in 2004, when many would have supported him out of a sense that he didn't get a fair chance against Bush in 2000. Unless he does something to get in the spotlight the next couple of years, I don't see him doing it.

A growing number of Democrats are writing about Hillary being unelectable, so her chances are now down from where I'd have predicted a few months ago, but she can't be ruled out.

There are multiple other possibilities, and it is hard so hard to predict. Who would have predicted Bill Clinton or Jimmy Carter this far out?

16. I think Rice will be on the republican ticket in '08
I just have a really bad feeling about this. It would be a great ploy to peel off some more Black voters who could let our sometimes misdirected racial solidarity trump rational thought.

on the ticket. Two strikes against her - her race and her gender. The repuke party will continue to be the white boys' club when it comes to Pres. tickets.

27. No way will they choose Rice.
I live in the south and believe me...racism is alive and well and thriving. The only social events I've gone to that had some black people in attendance have been democratic events. They are also sexist. They don't even believe in women being the pastors of churches. The thought of having a black woman president is probably the ONLY thing that could get these people to vote Democratic!!! I don't think they could even put Rice on the ticket as VP, cause the president could die and you'd have a black woman president...their worst nightmare. Rice may win the black vote...but she would lose the south...period.

28. We win with Condi or Guiliani
The problem is we won't get either of them. The good news is that with the exception of McCain, there is no star power on the other side. The bad news is that that means an ugly attack campaign against our candidate. So we need clean.
