Edited on Wed Jan-21-04 09:50 PM by trumad
So please enough of these posts dissing Gore for his endorsement of Dean. Believe me...if he would have endorsed Kerry, the Kerry folks would have been delighted...same goes for Edwards, Clark, etc.

Too the folks on DU who constantly bash Gore ... Do you ever hear Gore speak, do you ever watch his brillant speeches that rip George Bush apart? Gore is a wonderful Democrat and a strong voice against 43's regime!

30. Chomsky Has His Preexisting Formulaic View Of World Affairs
which he shoves facts into.

He sees America as an Evil Abomination of Imperialism and, therefore, anyone whom "resists" us or our influence is Good and Just.

He is an apologist for Pol Pot for instance.

This is a gross simplification of Chomsky but he is so verbose and obtuse that you should search out the Cliffs Notes Version before committing to reading him whole.

2. Of course
and Gore has made some good speeches lately, but I still wish he had been more like that during his campaign. And the Gore who served as vp almost seems like a completely different person from the Gore who wrote Earth in the Balance.

17. President Gore did the right thing by endorsing Dean when he did
By doing so he got the other candidates to be more vocal about Bush and his policies. At the time most of the major candidate appeared to be afraid tO say very much about our appointed president. Rather Dean wins or not I appreciate him for speaking out from the beginning on Bush and getting Democrats energized. BY THE WAY, GORE DID JUST FINE WHEN HE RAN IN 2000. AFTER ALL HE DID WIN. HE JUST HAD THE ELECTION STOLEN FROM HIM. SO ANYONE WANTING TO COMPLAIN THAT GORE DIDN'T RUN A GOOD CAMPAIGN IN 2000 OR IT WAS NADER'S FAULT, PLEASE PUT THE BLAME WHERE IT BELONG AND THAT IS WITH THE CROOKS OCCUPING THE WHITEHOUSE NOW!!!!!
RE-ELECT A DEMOCRAT IN 2004!!!!

7. Gore's condescending endorsment put me off
By telling us to fall back "in line" arrrghhh, and then a few Dean fans jumped in and declared the Democratic Primaries irrelevant.

13. I have a problem
with early endorsements, particularly from high profile people and organizations that occur early on.

Honestly, I would have been uncomfortable with the endorsement only because it occurred so early in the process.

Give the people a chance to have a voice before trying to influence the outcome.

And I say this to every high profile person who endorsed Wes Clark as well.

26. I didn't bash him for endorsing Dean
I never have, you can check all my posts to see if I have if you like.

The only issue I had with Gore's endorsement was not the WHO but the WHEN. I felt that he endorsed too early, before ANY actual votes were cast. If I were him, I would have been putting around rumours of an endorsement to get the other candidates to pander to me, but I wouldn't have endorsed up until the day before Super Tuesday. That way I would have a good chunk of political capital to speak of and it would be able to effectively influence the coming elections, and thus keep my ability to influence the party.

At least, that is how I would have done it.
