John Kerry, the good soldier, continues his fight for morality in the military.
    By Liz Larocca

I think I understand why John Kerry went to Iraq. It wasn’t exactly for the reasons he said, although I’m sure he did want to express his gratitude to all the soldiers and the Massachusetts National Guard troops in particular. Nor was it merely opportunistic, an attempt for personal political gain so he can position himself for another presidential run in 2008. Kerry went to Iraq because he is still a soldier, and he is continuing to fight the war that he began as a young man.

The war that Kerry is fighting is not a military conflict, but a cultural one. It is the war against the "good" soldier. more...

2. The SBVF'T' liar O'Neill only served five or six months and Kerry
Edited on Tue Feb-15-05 09:10 PM by EVDebs
served four on the swiftboats. O'Neill then went on record saying average swiftboat service was for 12 months. Kerry's total service record of about 3 and 1/2 years was also longer than O'Neill's two years.

Kerry is alright with me. Kerry's service was on PCF44 and PCF94.

Research the patrol craft histories at
http://swiftboats.net/

(You can search PCFs by clicking PCF40 and then scrolling down to PCF44, and then PCF90 and scrolling down to PCF94. O'Neill came onto PCF94 after Kerry).

And Kerry's service record at

13. Interesting.
Hmmm...I wonder why we never heard those facts in any news reports? Thanks very much for posting them.

They consistently wrote Kerry's first Vietnam tour out of his history.

19. The 'twelve month average Swiftboat service' is the thing
that got to me. O'Neill at most had six months on PCF94 and total two years service. They had Kerry looking bad and the media was complicit, that's what was sooooo bad about the whole deal.

fifteenth rectum replacement surgery.

3. This writer bothers to "get" Kerry. Unlike those who claim to be "baffled"
no matter what he says or does.

...And beautifully sums up a lot of complex ideas I'd've thought would have to take a much longer piece to lay out.

8. What a great article.
Thanks for posting this. God, it still makes me so sad that we came so close to having this brave, honorable man as President and ended up with four more years of that immoral coward.

16. Going Upriver comes close
But yeah, I think "Tour of Duty" would work as a movie. Maybe, years from now, when folks have this time in perspective, Bush will be vilified as he deserves, and Kerry recognized as a hero, as he deserves.

I am confident that Bush will be judged guilty by Hitler. Madness is temporary. History is forever.

20. Here's another good article
I don't understand, in the report we got about this interview with military reporters, why this stuff wasn't highlighted. It really shows what he means by "support the troops."

Kerry unveils bill to help Iraq war veterans with transition home

By Leo Shane III, Stars and Stripes
European edition, Wednesday, February 16, 2005

WASHINGTON — Many guardsmen returning from overseas deployment are finding their families in debt and their small businesses on the verge of collapse, according to Sen. John Kerry, who unveiled a bill Tuesday to help ease that transition back home.

“A small veterinarian’s office or a small contractor, their business falls apart while their gone,” said Kerry, D-Mass., in a meeting with defense reporters. “In many cases they’re been sustained by the goodwill and patriotism of folks in their community so they can pick up when they come back, but it’s not without a lot of effort and a lot of work.”

Kerry’s legislation would provide tax incentives to employers who keep deployed guardsmen and reservists on their payrolls, and create new loans and grants for self-employed troops to help get their businesses running again.

“What we can do is try to provide economic incentives to cushion that impact and facilitate their efforts to survive,” he said.

22. Kerry is truly a man of character.
Unlike the LIHOP, lying, AWOL, inside trader whose rotted excuse of a political party stole the past election.

Think of the soldiers who are sacraficing themselves in Iraq today. More than 50% are Democrats. I wonder how future Republicans will honor these soldier's service when they run for political office?....And it will be against the same chickenhawk flock that cheers on this war today (I'm thinking of scumbaggage like Jonah Goldberg).

23. Wow - Thank YOU!
That was great - actually gave me chills. Kerry (like Jimmy Carter) keeps reminding that good men aren't always appreciated like they should be but they always "win" in the end. Because doing what is right is its own reward.
