How would you compare Reid's work so far to that of Daschle?
I think he's a solid improvement, myself.

1. Well we'll see with the judges
After all these were judges that Daschle effectively blocked..so one would expect Reid to follow through.

So far, though, Reid has proven to be FAR LESS mild mannered than Daschle and that is refreshing.

2. I like Reid a lot
He's not flashy, but I think he's a lot tougher than Daschle.

6. I am very proud of both of them.
Thanks to all you good Dems.

3. Just over a month on the job
...and I think he's golden. I have to say I am very surprised, but pleasantly so. He behaves like an opposition leader. Daschle never seemed to warm to that role and needed to be removed even if he had won his race.

Having said that, I'd sure like to have ol' Tom back in his seat. He may not have been a great Senate leader, but he was a pretty good Dem.

14. We have Gannon/Guckert to thank in part for that
We must be diligent in having Harry's back so that such attacks on him get rapidly responded to.

4. I've seen more opposition from Reid in 6 weeks than Daschle in 4 years!

7. Yeah
Like the "Pro-Life" Reid is gonna stop anti-roe judges.

He's praised Antonin Scalia while attacking Clarence Thomas who if anything is slightly less worse than Scalia. Makes no sense.

8. I'm a fan...
I think he's doing a terrific job - he's standing up for the Dems, keeping things organized and so-far working effectively with the Repubs to get stuff like the floor time for the Rice & Gonzales debates. I'm proud and happy that he's the Dem Leader.

9. Bitchin'
Work? Who cares about "work?" Most of us know little about the "work" that is conducted behind closed doors.

I gave Daschle a semi-pass on his 'behind-the-scenes' "work" when he was "cute." When he lost his "rugged, boyish good looks" he became just another Washington pol to me.

Politics has been about superficial physicality for as long as I can remember, and I'll argue 'physical attributes' vs. policy any time (almost).

Reid has his own positive physical attributes to get the job done on a national stage and they seem less transitional than Daschle's.

Hopefully the "new media" will begin to challenge the physical thing. Even if that happens, it will only be on the "intellectual" level. As always, physical attributes will remain THE most important thing in national politics.

11. Reid was stunned by testimony at the Dorgan hearing today
we'll see what he does with the information ...

i think he needs to call a press conference with Dorgan to put the information before the American people ... he doesn't need to make any allegation about witness intimidation by the bush administration, but he should make it very clear that several witnesses today so testified ...

if issues like the theft of Iraq reconstruction monies and the subsequent cover-up are swept under the rug, then Reid will not take us where we need to go ... on the other hand, he's seemed far more willing to stand up and fight ... let's hope he does the right thing ...

And a welcome change. I'm still reserving full judgment (and still wary of his pro-life posn), but I'm pleased and pleasantly surprised.

13. I like Reid..........
He said he would hold press briefs and he has. He is trying too get the message out there instead off taking shots from the Repukitins. He is going in the right direction. Hail Jeebus.

15. What's with Rush Lumpshit calling him Dusty Reid? Is that a
play on words from some movie character or something?

That's about as lame as calling Daschle "Puff Daschle" because it sounded 10% like Puff Daddy.

Please don't get the impression that I listen to Lumpshit alot. I listen about 15 minutes per month, if that.

16. Excatly WHAT has the new Senate leadership done to block
Edited on Tue Feb-15-05 02:39 AM by depakid
either the Republican agenda or Bush's nominees?

Just approved more Tort deform- and they're about to approve a major bankruptcy giveaway to credit card companies at the expense of single moms and people with exhorbitant medical bills. Given us a torturer as attorney general and an dishonest incompetant who ignored intelligence warnings and lied us into a war.

Of course, it's hard to match Daschle for rolling over, but give Reid time....

17. Straight-shooter, tough talker, stands his ground
There's no way Republicans can do to Reid what they did to Daschle. They might even alienate Nevadas voters by going after him.

18. Better than the disappointment, Obama.
Reid is constitutionally better suited than Daschle for these times. Daschle folded where Reid seems energized by attacks against him.
