Do You Honestly Think Things Can Be Reversed--or allowed to????
I've been around as an adult from the early 60's. I saw a Congress ruled with an iron hand by Democrats totally collapse and be taken over by Facists in the disguise of Republicans around about the mid-terms of 1994. (The Repubs campaign was beautiful---they played on the frustrations created by years of Reagan and Bush I and screamed "throw the bums out"---and because the Congress was Dem dominated, the idiot sheep voted "the bums" out which meant Repub replacements. And the rest, as they say, is history). But here's what scares me to the bone now.

It was possible within the framework of democracy and waging a good hoodwink, bullshit campaign like the Repubs did to create the "revolution". Today I think it is utterly impossible unless the "powers that be" keep the populace happy by "allowing" us to elect some Dem who is a kissing cousin in philosophy to the Bush clan!!! Now the citizens have access to only the information the facists want through the media. Now the facists have used technology to make the populace feel all warm and fuzzy about voting while they are electronically altering their votes. Now tv has spread the con-man poision of the right-wing Christian branch of the facists movement. I honestly don't see how even with great organization and money raising we are ever, ever going to see one of those usual, predictable, eventual changes in the government. And, more importantly, I believe that anyone that is 'getting through' to the public as it becomes increasingly frightened, abused and used by these people will find themselves visited by a new brand of Mafia.

1. Only a full impeachment
can get a true democrat in the White House now, through the overreaction by the public.

The President would have to declare martial law to begin undoing the damage to our political system.

2. Things can be turned around
If you been following events since the 60's then you know what happen to Nixon during his second term. I don't think that Bush will be impeached but his political support can be minimized to the point that he becomes politically impotent.

I think that Bush has over reached with his social security plan and now there may be a nasty scandal involving members of his administration trying to managed the news media, ("Jeff Gannon", Armstrong Williams, etc). Plus public support for the Iraqi war is lukewarm at best. And the economy was some real structural problems.

The main reason for optimism is that Howard Dean, a real unapologetic progressive, is leading the Democratic party right now. It seems that Dean is going to take the fight to the Republicans instead of just being against Bush. I believe that in order to win in politics you just can't oppose a person or a set of policies. You have advance a set of policies that people can embrace. I think that Dean is going to do that. So, I think things are turning around, it just isn't apparent yet.
