Clinton tells the naysayers to get a life
Even if Clinton is a little frail, he's still on message. Here's what he said tonight at the DNC dinner:

~snip~
Former President Bill Clinton (news - web sites) encouraged Democrats on Thursday to rally around the party's leaders and said doomsayers who predict the party's demise needed to "get a life and look at history."

Clinton told Democratic activists gathered in Washington for a two-day meeting, which concludes on Saturday with the expected election of former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean (news - web sites) as party chairman, that "better tactics" and a clearer vision would foster a swing in the political pendulum and a Democratic revival.

"We need to stop saying that in order to win the White House something magical has to happen," Clinton told a dinner honoring outgoing party Chairman Terry McAuliffe. "All that has to happen is we've got to have a clear vision, a plan for the future, good campaign tactics and fight like the devil."

This is IT. They desperately need calcium supplements for their budding backbones. If you can, bolster those emails with phone calls (to your local office if you can't swing the long distance) - and www.congress.org has a good directory for EVERYBODY on the Hill. Or faxes. Or snail mail.

They NEED to hear from us. If they're still squeamish, send 'em to Barbara Boxer.

BTW - I'm reposting this thread about the impact that making contact can have. This is a contact-the-media thread, but the same overriding idea STILL applies.

:P

Seriously, though, this is the first time after Nov that I've had any hope. The first step is fighting back and I'm seeing more Dems willing to do it now than in a long time.

7. Clinton knew Howard Dean was right for the job 8 years ago
"I'd also like to say that whatever it is that Howard Dean knows -- or whatever it is that he eats for breakfast every morning -- if I could give it to every other Democratic office holder and would-be office holder, we would immediately become the majority in the Congress and we would have about 35 governors. I have to tell you, I think a big part of it is just producing for people, actually doing what you say you're going to do at election time."
- President Bill Clinton addressing the Democratic Governor’s Association, 12 November 1997

9. Way to go Bill!
Way to go Bill! You are the great communicator. No reason why you cannot pick up a new role as the official "cutter through all the crap". No reason at all. As long as you are talking to Democrats - it is up to Democrats to tell you when to shut up.

So keep on talking!!

And man is heart surgery ever brutal. And many people go through: massive depression; bruises everywhere; learning to walk again; learning to breath again; veins taken from your legs and put in your thorax; medication, etc. etc. You are a real trooper Bill!
