I'm giving away my age here, but in the opening sequence, Chuck Connors was drummed out of the US Cavalry. Even in an open primary Republicans can run in the Democratic primaries, and Democrats in the Republican primaries. Zell was elected to the Senate in a nonpartisan primary.
