Dean's classy statement on Trippi, and his comments on gossip.
Edited on Wed Feb-09-05 01:52 PM by madfloridian
Since that thread is staying up so long, I would like to post this separately. It is painful to see Trippi say these things, but it also hurts to see Trippi bashed so much. Both ways bring back memories....we need to look ahead now.

This was from Dean's recent appearance on Inside Politics...very classy, very true. Also note how he asks Woodruff for documentation of her statements.

http://www.blogforamerica.com/archives/005792.html

Woodruff: It's been reported that some conservative Democrats have let it be known that they're ready to leave the Party if you're elected Chair. Have you heard this?

Dean: No, I haven't heard that. That sounds like Washington gossip to me. But I'd be happy to take a look at those reports if you'd let me see them.

Woodruff: Well let me quote somebody you do know well and that is your former campaign manager Joe Trippi. As I'm sure you know, he's weighed in for someone else, Simon Rosenberg of the New Democratic Network.

But Joe Trippi says of you, Howard Dean, he says: "We are muting one of the most progressive voices in the party, when (what) we ought to be doing is taking somebody who knows how to make the apparatus work, which Howard was not really that interested in?"

Dean: Well, you know, I'm not going to go after Joe Trippi. I've been very good about that. Our campaign didn't work. There were plenty of reasons why it didn't work, and to get into all that stuff doesn't make any sense.

This is not about Joe Trippi. The election is about the future of Democrats and the future of democracy. I know how to make grassroots work. I've brought hundreds of thousands of people into this party, many of whom were not Democrats. We need those people in order to win....."
END SNIP

He is right, Joe, it is time to move on.

4. Love Him Calling Her Out
Sellout Woodruff has been bashing Dean for weeks now with the opening line of "some people say". She has yet to produce a single name aside from pugs who were cam paining, vis Sellout and her cronies, to get rid of Sean.

21. Barbara Walters had that in this book she wrote a LONG time ago
called "How to Talk to Practically Anybody About Practically Anything" (or words to that effect). It was while she was still at the "Today" show. And she said she used this technique all the time to broach a difficult subject by essentially putting those words, her own, or maybe something she thought she'd heard from someone else, or a notion she wanted to plant to get a reaction or response, or to stir things up: "There are those who say..."

And it worked. As an interviewer when I was still working in the news business, I used this and versions of it, all the time.

Saying how he thinks it's Washington gossip and he'd love to see the reports. I wonder if he ever saw them or will. Gotta love Dean. He knows how to handle situations like that. :loveya: :yourock:

24. Woodruff's "It's been reported" = Fox's "Some people say".
Dean's "I'd like to see those reports" really blew her false lead, didn't it? I don't think they know how to deal with Howard.

Paula Zahn was a wreck after Dean kept correcting her intentionally misleading statements during his "interview" with her last year.

Dean's the best champion the Party has had in my lifetime.

13. Definition of "centrist", and response to Woodruff on GOP "salivating".
From the interview:

"Dean: Well, first of all, I don't think there's anything the matter with the word liberal. So we oughta get that straight right away. Having said that, I am a centrist. I am in the center of where most of America is....."

On "publicly salivating"

Woodruff: At the same time, Governor, what's to stop the Republicans, if you're elected Party chair, from pointing at you and saying, here's somebody out of the mainstream, unrepresentative of what the great middle of this country wants. I mean, there were reports during the campaign that they were salivating at the idea of you being the nominee of the Party. Why wouldn't they salivate at the idea of you being the head of the Party?

Dean: Well when they publicly salivate, you always wonder what they think privately. The truth is that the only way to take on the Republicans is straight ahead and fight them and not become Republicans. Ted Kennedy said this today in one of the great speeches I think we've had for a long time. It is not the way to beat the Republican Party by becoming Republican. Harry Truman said that if you run a Republican against a Democrat who acts like a Republican, then the real Republican wins every time.

And, let's look at Newt Gingrich for a model. How did he get rid of us? He stood up and made a distinct difference between the Republican Party and the Democratic Party, after years of Republicans trying to pretend like they were Democrats. It doesn't work to mimic the other party....."

Heh- that was great. She could not follow up, so she changed the subject to Trippi--Did Trippi say anything about anyone leaving the Democrats?

I like how Dean lets the audience see that the GOP/media is full of it.

23. TOTAL CLASS
Thanks again MadFl for posting.

I didn't mean to start a war w/the other post, but I was getting tired of Trippi slamming Dean in order to get his name in the news.

If Trippi is the guru he claims to be he wouldn't need to beat Dean down to be successful, he'd be working on his next race. Since his involvement in the campaign he has only been negative on Dean, not positive on Trippi's future.

Dean moved on....when will Trippi?

33. I'm not certain
But probably about the time he went on MSNBC - kind of hard to be a consultant for campaigns and then get them to buy ad time on the show you're appearing on.

(conflict of interest?)

I do know the falling out was BAD.

28. I absolutely love the way Dean frames
that statement to judy about.."That sounds like Washington gossip to me. But I'd be happy to take a look at those reports if you'd let me see them."

Dean understands how these mediawhores operate..who wouldn't after the last 20 years of this shyte that has only gotten Worse?

And I don't know :wtf: trippi was talking about when he said.."We are muting one of the most progressive voices in the party, when (what) we ought to be doing is taking somebody who knows how to make the apparatus work, which Howard was not really that interested in?"

Whose voice is being muted? And maybe Dean was busy doing other things in his campaign instead of being interested in how "the aparatus" worked.
