So I was talking with a conservative friend of mine...
I wouldn't call him exactly a right winger, he's very right wing on some stuff, but generally a reasonable person, more of a libertarian type. By no means a Bush fan, he believes that Bush is in the pocket of business, and would vote for McCain in a second.

He and I were talking about the election this year, he's not sure who he's going to vote for, but isn't dead set against Bush. He's not real psyched about any of the Democratic candidates either though.

There was, however, one Democrat that he said he'd vote for in a second: Hillary Clinton. This friend is by no means a liberal, and probably disagrees with 70% of what Hillary would want to do. Basically, here's his take:

"I am actually hoping for Hillary because, despite my disagreements with her, I actually believe she believes what she says and isnt just a talking head. She'd make both parties perform at their highest levels."

I just found it interesting, he mentioned several of the current Democrats that he will not vote for, some that he might. But the only Democrat he would definitely vote for (against not just Bush, but anyone) is Hillary Clinton. I just found that somewhat remarkable.

2. Always ask a winger WHY they won't vote for Bush. I think Bush knows
why and has a plan to get those voters back.

Figure out if it's a reason Bush could fix, or if it's something that's impossible to fix.

For me it has been the war for two of them.

4. He just doesn't like Bush
Believes him to be an idiot that doesn't care about the average person. That he's beholden to the big businesses that put him into office. It's not something that Bush can fix, he just thinks that Bush is full of shit.

5. His conservative instincts...
Edited on Wed Jan-21-04 04:52 PM by cprise
...want a responsible non-figurehead to go in and clean up his friends' mess.

He wants another Bill Clinton to go in, become immobilized on his own stated agenda, while he mops up after neocons and takes all kinds of blame for imaginary misdeeds.

Sorry, that's what your message says to me.

6. Bush is no conservative.
Bush is a radical unlike any other President in the history of this nation. There have been honorable conservatives; they are spinning in their graves with this President.

8. Depends on what you're comparing him to
Compared to politicians in most of the 20th century, he is a radical. But put the 20th century in the historical context of what preceeded it, and you see he is a conservative.

BushCo is trying to send us back to the 1890s.

Neocons and Neoliberals both call the economic part of this process 'modernization'.

9. "Hillary believes what she says" - also heard that from a RW'r
A right wing guy who loves Bush said that to me 2 weeks ago.
Said she is far more genuine than Clinton in terms of "the cause".
