(My mother thinks) "they" will run Laura Bush for Prez!
I told her I thought this idea was crazy.

This Laura discussion was only the follow up to she and I agreeing that Jeb is the most likely candidate.

She cites Governor Wallace - when his wife ran and won because he was term limited - as the precident(sp?) for this theory. She thinks that Republicans love Laura (aka Betty Crocker) and that they will vote for her thinking Bush will really be prez. (I think Republicans will dismiss her because she is a woman who hasn't held political office, but she says they like her and they will realy think they are voting for GW).

As for Democrats - we assume it's Hillary's for the taking if she choses to run. She thinks Hillary will provide the necessary openning for the running of Laura. Neither of us have any handle on whether Hillary would win or lose the general election - though I think she believes that Laura might beat Hillary but Jeb might not.

We also discussed many other possible Democrats and their pros and cons, but that's another topic.

I know the Laura idea is really out in left field - but since the idea had never occured to me before, and since I've never seen it around, I thought I'd post it.

1. Only if they make rapid advances in robotics
and come out with a new 2008 model. The current one is just not convincing.

3. Is she any less convincing than *?
Remember when he had the chip implanted (boil, my ass!) during the contest against Gore - plus the box shaped device on Bush's back...

4. Tell your mama
1. The nomination is not Hillary's for the asking or anything else. She voted FOR the war. She has many less than courageous stands to justify.

2. Laura is only popular as the anti-Hillary. If she runs, she IS Hillary. Also, too many Republican men have been waiting for the Bushes to leave. Frist, for instance.

6. I agree with pnt 2, but not 1...
(1)I think pro or anti War will not be the deciding factor and that Hillary, if she wants it, has an extremely strong shot.

(2) Agree with the anti-Hillary thesis (this is my problem with my mother's Laura theory) but wonder if Rove can overcome this. Also think that Frist is just a Shrub tool and will end up doing whatever the BFEE orders him to do.

7. If Tedd Kennedy still bears the weight of Chappaquaddick...
then Laura will have to bear the weight of her "accidental" killing of her boyfriend.

8. Unlikely to happen
There are too many in the party establishment that feel like they are next in line - Santorum, Frist, and George Allen are a few that come to mind.

I don't see a Bush running in '08 and if any of them were to it'd be Jeb (my guess is we'll see Jeb making a run in '12).

11. This is absurd. She hasn't accomplished one thing in her life.
Even Dubya ran a few businesses to the ground before he was installed. Does she even talk?
