7. Help
I can't start my own thread just yet, but I am watching Hardball. I was kind of paying attention, they said that in July they would basically impose a "blue state tax", said something to the effect that you could not write off your local and state taxes which are much higher in the northeast and west coast. Can anyone here explain this as i only caught the end?

11. The elimination of the deduction for state taxes is one of the monkey's
brilliant :eyes: ideas (he apparently doesn't think too highly of the mortgage deduction either). This would hit some of the blue states especially hard as they pay higher income taxes, e.g. NY and CA.

It seems unfathomable that this would pass muster, but so do a lot of things that have happened since the freak stole office.

Welcome to DU :hi:

13. One of the other brilliant ideas I heard at the same time
...was that Bush also wants to get rid of the corporate tax deduction for the employer contribution to employee health plans. The only reason I can imagine he'd want to do this is to get a lot of corporations to cancel their health insurance contributions -- makes no sense otherwise.

15. Yep, that one is a real lulu.
I'm not sure whether he's just looking for something to put in the coffers (while still leaving his corporate buddies with a zero sum deal), he figures that he can put his uber-free-market-corporate fantasies to work in the health care arena, or he just wants us all to die.

(Hmmm...left one out...the military will still provide health care)

9. That was today.
Tomorrow, he'll be disgusted with it. The day after tomorrow, he'll think its a great idea.

Probably caught him in the middle between his polar swings........

10. I SAW THIS
I happened to be channel surfing and I caught the end of the interview with the journalist from the "New Yorker". I can bearly stand to watch the sputtering fool because he never allows the question to be answered, but:
After all she said - and all has been documented about the ineffectiveness of torture for information gathering, at the end of the program that tight, thin-lipped dry drunk, sanctimonious Catholic ex-cop who usually gushes over "studs", offensively concluded by saying he thought there were times when torture was appropriate. I felt like kicking his lily white Catholic arse out the door.

What would Jesus say?
