The Dems need to launch a social security TV ad blitz
If they don't, people will fall for it. Thats been the pattern. They need to know the consequences if Bushes plan fails. They need to be reminded of the truth about his previous manufactured crisis'. The GOP has always wanted to undo the new deal. Destroy it and get rich in the process. They really need to spend some serious money fighting this with TV ads.

1. Where is the Republican plan?
I have not seen a writeup of it in my newspaper.

The mention of it on the White House webpage is vague.

3. Plan? They don't need no stinking plan!
They have rhetoric and a whirlwind tour where they already have one DINO traitor standing up with them, and expect to get at least three more.

2. Networks won't run the ads
ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox have already turned down ads opposing Bush's dismantling of SS. Said they had a policy of not running ads on "controversial issues" except during elections. :eyes:

4. AARP should get out there
They owe us for approving that damn Medicare plan. i cant tell you how many members they have lost because of that. I made my dad cancel his subscription because they backed that plan. and many of their members left them pissed off.

now is their chance to redeem themselves. i saw a commercial for them the other day but they were just looking for members.

from their site:
http://www.aarp.org/research/press/presscurrentnews/state_of_union.html

Statement by AARP CEO William D. Novelli in Reaction to the State of the Union Address

February 3, 2005

AARP is pleased that the President has put Social Security high on the nation's agenda. Social Security needs to be strengthened for our children and our grandchildren. But the solution shouldn't be worse than the problem. Private accounts that drain money out of Social Security will cut its guaranteed benefits, increase the debt and pass the bill on to future generations. AARP is working to strengthen Social Security, not dismantle it.

All Americans, old and young, have a stake in this debate. The generations are not divided. When it comes to Social Security, America is a house united. AARP's recent survey shows that people of all incomes and generations are for strengthening Social Security, not destroying it. We must honor our obligations. There are sensible and workable solvency options to explore that may make a real and lasting difference.

Hundreds of thousands of voters have called Congress since January 1st to express their opposition to taking money out of Social Security to pay for private accounts.

Social Security is the cornerstone of retirement security. For many, it is all that stands between years of dignity and poverty.

Social Security was never intended to be the sole source of retirement income, but this foundation must be strengthened. AARP supports savings and investment options that are in addition to, not in place of, Social Security.

AARP is working to ensure retirement security for all generations. Any agenda to strengthen our nation for the future must also include strong Medicare benefits, a viable Medicaid program and opportunities for meaningful employment. These are family issues that demand Americans of all ages be engaged. We will work with members of both parties to ensure that all Americans age with security and dignity.

10. I wonder if a series of "town meetings" across the country
hopefully broadcast by C-SPAN, would help.

13. They should be following Bush around the Country
if not in person, then with ad blitzes in every state he visits. TV, newspaper, radio, whatever will except them. these senators in the states Bush is visiting need some cover from democratic leadership.

I get the feeling the vote for Democratic chair has come at a bad time. Bush only has a short time to get his second term agenda pushed though, and the Dems are busy with internal battles over new leadership.
