Read why *'s administration wants to drill in ANWR, what it means for our nation's natural heritage, and how you can help to stop it!

1. Robert Redford - sigh
He's such a cool guy. Smart, low-key, environmentally friendly.

They've got arnie, we've got Redford. 'Nuff said.

2. I've often thought that was the reason. Like a dog that has to lift its
leg and pee on everything pristine, they have to put their mark there.

5. I happen to agree with this
but it's an extremely unpopular sentiment here. Most Alaskans, Democrats and Republicans alike, think that drilling in ANWR would solve any economic problems this state could ever have.

9. When I lived in Alaska in the early '70s, they built a huge pipeline
Why didn't THAT solve any and all economic problems the state might have?

6. Redford has it right-- a quick buck is all this means to b*sh.
This is an example of his "ownership society".

I really enjoyed how Redford used the repubs own catch phrases calling the conserving of nature in its wild state a "core American value".

I really respect how so many of his movies sent a message.
"Electric Horseman" comes to mind when reading his letter.

7. Why can't Redford be our President?
Brains, compassion, idealism, integrity.... Everything we are lacking now...

8. I've been pushing that idea for awhile now . . .
but no one seems interested . . . he's exactly the kind of candidate we need -- non-politician, non-DC, well informed, progressive, compassionate (donates all proceeds from Newman's Own to charity), highly intelligent, well known and well liked . . . pair him up with a VP candidate with unimpeachable foreign policy/defense credentials (William Cohen?) and we have a winning ticket . . . unless they steal it again, of course . . .

if they can run a third rate actor with a third rate mind (Reagan, for those too young to remember) and win two terms, we should be able to win with a first rate actor with a first rate mine . . . and it gets us away from having to run a sitting senator (only two of whom have won the presidency in the entire history of the US) . . .
