Is There Anything You Like About Bush?
Edited on Wed Feb-02-05 02:06 PM by DistressedAmerican
I know this will probably be a short thread as few will have much to recommend the guy.

I've thought long and hard and the only thing I can think of that he did that I liked was bring Colin Powell on board. It gave me some hope. Then he pimped him out to the UN, destroyed his reputation and kicked him out in favor of Condi.

So, He screwed that up too. Is there anything you like about the guy or liked at one time?

49. You don't like the way he focks with the religious right? I think it's
just precious how he campaigns as if he's going to push a gay marriage amendment and make abortion illegal to shake voters out of the churches and then refuse to do either AFTER the election, so he doesn't look like a rightwing religious nut in the history books.

I LOVE how he focks with the theocratic crowd. He does it better than any Dem ever could.

to use the mindless masses and the religious right. According to Howard Dean he "Hates those people." But they think he's the messiah which is just bonkers.

26. Do not presume
The Constitution limits the terms of a particular president, but does not limit the term of lunacy. The worst thing about Bush is that he's only a figurehead for utter madness. Defeating Bush will not defeat the madness.

After Dumbya there will be others. It is our job to expose the lunacy and defeat it in principle. At this point what I really fear is that the madness is so engrained that it may take a fracturous, catastrophic event to shock some sense into the body politic.

8. Yeah, one thing: I used to respect his distance running
When he took office, it helped motivate me to run, knowing that a guy more than ten years older than me could still do a seven-minute mile pace. Sometimes I'd push myself, literally saying "I won't let that bastard beat me!"

That was the only thing about GWB I ever respected. However, he blew out his knee a year or so ago, and doesn't really run any more, so that's no longer relevant.

He is a moron, but somehow he finds enough pride and self-satisfaction to be one of the most arrogant motherfuckers on the planet.

This image of his, the "plain-spoken, normal, down to earth guy you could have a beer with" is all bullshit. I would be willing to bet that Bush has only contempt for average Americans. He just tolerates them long enough to get them to vote for him.

And, besides, he couldn't have a beer with anyone: He is a recovering alcoholic.

25. as 20 plus year old paid for 15 year old girlfriends abortion - arranged
for doctor.

That was nice.

Married a woman who killed her boyfriend - that shows forgiveness.

Came home drunk and fought with Dad - that shows he is just like other young fellows looking for a purpose in life.

Ran from war - and then got scared of landing planes after he crashed one - that shows intelligence.

Does no real work - never did - has no problem living off money other folks give him - not embarrassed that all his business ventures were failures - and that he got his "bonus" from his baseball buddies by ripping of the State in the ball park deal. Shows he is an ideal slacker.

Looks good in a cheerleading outfit - and can act real good - can convince folks he is sincere - shows he could have made a living as a used car salesmen.

91. Laura was the driver of a car that ran a stop sign and hit another car
coming from her right.

The driver of the other car was killed.

The driver of the other car was her boyfriend at the time.

Despite law/procedures that would have meant an alcohol test was automatic because it was a death caused by car event, she was sent on her way with no such test.

That is about it.

39. I managed to think of something
After 9/11, he did make some statements recognizing that terrorists were only a small and non-representative part of the Islamic community. I think he can fairly be credited, to some extent at least, with having used his "bully pulpit" to effect some reduction in prejudice against Muslims in the U.S.

True, other things that he did would tend to have the opposite effect.

I hope I put in enough qualifiers and caveats to forestall the worst of the flames. :)

Thanks for the post; it's an interesting intellectual exercise.

109. I thought it was good at the time.
Since then, with his "crusade" talk and attack on Muslims unconnected to 9/11, he's destroyed the tiny credit he might have earned on that score. And let's not forget the actions of his administration in roundups of Muslims within our own country (as you suggest). So, for me it's a wash. And that's the only positive I might have given him.

A dimwitted asshole with a "lampshade on the head" sense of humor. A rich boy with a big mouth who was a coward and a drunk most of his life. A false Christian who can't quote Jesus Christ accurately and skimps on church. Worst president ever.

The Republicans picked a great symbol for themselves. I love it. It's as if someone you don't like is walking around at a party with a loose toupee and their fly open.

I have to agree. I like the way he epitomizes the underlying characteristics of the Repuke worldview: corruption, greediness, dishonesty, xenophobia, psuedo "Christian" righteousness, hell, fire and brimstone puritanical strict fatherness.

He actually is doing us a favor in the long run by being such a fanatical cult leader. These things have a way of causing major blow back. If he were less fanatical, it would do less damage to their party in the long term.

So, in a sense, I like that he is so fanatical. It makes the sometimes not so obvious, very obvious.

There is NOTHING I like about **. Nothing.

That's a history-making event, folks.

from the George W. Bushism Calendar:

"I glance at the headlines just to kind of get a flavor for what's moving. I rarely read the stories, and get briefed by people who probably read the news themselves."

- George W. Bush, in Washington D.C. on September 21, 2003.

77. No, no, truly no, but that makes for problems...
... Bush is so incredibly bad for so many reasons that it makes US appear to be unreasonable and immoderate.

I was discussing the election with my right-leaning brother-in-law back last spring, and he was using the "well, he has his good and bad, and the other guy has his good and bad, too" line. I had to say that no, in this instance, I cannot find the good among the nearly-infinite bads. I had to defend the point by finding good to say about other Republicans so I wouldn't seem like it was just a knee-jerk reaction. So, basically, Bush is so bad in so many ways that it makes US look bad. He tars everyone with that brush, even the opposition.
