Columbus mayor to make run for governor

By John McCarthy
The Associated Press

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Mayor Michael Coleman's skill at raising money and his popularity in central Ohio will make him a strong candidate for governor, officials in both political parties said.

A source close to Coleman's campaign, speaking on condition of anonymity, told The Associated Press that Coleman plans announce his candidacy from his home today. He would be the first Democrat to enter next year's race.

Republicans have held the governor's office since 1991. Gov. Bob Taft easily defeated little-known Democrat Tim Hagan to win re-election in 2002.

Coleman told The Columbus Dispatch for a story on the newspaper's Web site that he felt he had a "duty" to try to break the GOP's 13-year hold on the office.

2. As long as he isn't related to Norm (turncoat) Coleman.....
If this guy is a real DEM I think he should kick Ken Blackwell's ass up and down Ohio!

3. I wouldn't worry too much about Blackwell
As much as the the Dems are going to keep the heat on his voting scandals, Blackwell might prefer to be kicking his own ass up and down Ohio before the end of this year. By the time the 2006 primaries roll around, Ken Blackwell will likely be "Blacklisted" in the eyes of most Ohioans.

That, and he really doesn't have many friends among the Ohio GOP leadership. He's way too right-wing, even for their tastes. Keep in mind that Ohio Republicans are still more of the "Rockefeller Moderate" variety.

I'd guess the Republicans will put up Ohio Attorney General Jim Petro as their successor to the insipid Gov. Taft. But hopefully, the Democratic nominee will take him down.

4. But the diebold machines like him. We must learn not to take...
anything for granted. The more irrational something seems the more likely the bushits and their rag tag team of hounds are to pursue it.

Look at what they want to do to social security. Just so Bush can rewrite the structure and get out of paying back what he's borrowed against social security.
