Team Kerry: Who Could Help Beat Bush? Clark? Hart?Nunn? Graham?Kennedy?

To get anything done in Washington, Democrats have to win Congress as well as the Presidency. Nov. has to be a sweeping victory coast to coast. Eeking out at win is not enough!

So, assuming Kerry can get the nod, does he NEED Clark as V.P.? Is there a better choice?

What about the rest of team? Not just for cabinet. But also to win hard victories against the Repub state by state.

Great think about Kerry is that he doesn't seem to have had to
do any big pol deals to get where he is, so he may be free to do whatever is best for the fight.

So DUer, What team could get you all excited?

1. Kerry-Edwards
I love what Edwards has been saying lately. Edwards also complements Kerry as a personality. Kerry is cerebral and analytical, while Edwards is warm and friendly.

20. How so? What Southerner will abandon Bush for
Edwards who is just a VP? THere is not one. I'll support the nominee-was impressed with Kerry and Edwards Monday (though Dean is still number one with me). But what electoral votes can Kerry pick up that Gore did not?

5. Edwards would take issue with that
edwards is running for president right now and i do believe he has a chance at it.but i agree with you that they like each other. john kerry said they are good friends and he agrees with edwards on many issues.

8. Somehow I think so Kerry pals like Kennedy feel Edwards too lightweight

What about someone with gravitas like Robert Bird who could really
help win in the South.

Funny, but most analyst dont' think Edwards has a strong enough
reputation in the south to take even his home state from the repubs.

Being an intellegent attractive guy goes only so far.

10. Bob Graham...

...would balance the ticket geographically, would carry Florida, and has the stature to offset Zell Millers treason in the south. But more importantly, Graham, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee would bring the knowledge and gravitas to the team to attack Bush/Cheney at their precieved strength; the security of the country, and the progress of the war on terror.

Though I'm not sure Harold Ford Jr. is old enough.

14. Depends on how Clark does
If Edwards does well and Clark doesn't... or if its the other way around... one would become more attractive than the other.

I think Edwards would kick some serious rear end as AG (Aand he could start by kicking Ashcroft's out the door)

19. Lots of great ticket possibilities
Kerry/Edwards, Kerry/Clark, Kerry/Cleland, Kerry/Graham -- can you tell I want a Southerner? lol

I'm not from the South so I don't know a lot about Southern politicians but I bet there are many others that would be good choices.

21. Kerry should pick Sam Nunn as his VP
Edited on Wed Jan-21-04 04:43 PM by IndianaGreen
It would make it easier for us to attack Kerry for choosing such a homophobe as a running mate.

A Kerry/Nunn ticket will attract the pro-DOMA vote.

24. it's time to break away from an all white/male ticket
I would love to see Clark/Ford ticket or Clark/Landrieu

either one would help us keep Breaux's seat Democratic while picking up the southern states that we need and it would probably help us in South Carolina and maybe Florida.

Georgia is pretty much a done deal for the Repukes

she's a shoo-in for re-election

anyway, she's not a national candidate--she wouldn't play very well in certain regions

29. To hell with "excitement"
I want to WIN.

Our nominee - no matter who it is - needs a VP who can help in a state or region where he is weak, or to try to pick up a state Gore lost narrowly in 2000.

I think the ideal candidate is Governor Bill Richardson. He has the experience, broad favorable ratings that cross political lines, and as a Hispanic, appeal to the fastest-growing ethnic group in the country.

He would cinch up NM and CA, help in FL, Colorado, and Arizona, and brings a lifetime of positive experience in Congress, UN, Cabinet, and as a state governor to the ticket.

38. Edwards is strong among
some democrats, but the jury is out in the general election and public (to use legal related terms). Don't think he is enough to add to trump bush in the south, but might be able to pick up one, two at the most (though I don't know which ones) which might do it.
