Black Thursday & Not One Damned Dime local report
Well, I found it encouraging that the two places I went today, I found people in black. My local postmistress, Kim, was in black and all three women in my new bank were in black. Jennifer, the gal who signed me up for three new accounts, was all in black as was I. Her boss and the other woman had on black pants. And, if Safeway's parking lot was any indication, Not One Damned Dime was working as well.

So, about the bank. I was really unhappy when CitiCorp bought out my bank, but it was a lot o trouble to change banks so I didn't... until this week. If you want to put up one more fight, go to www.solari.com and read how you can vote with your money. In other words, move your money out of the big corporate banks into small privately owned banks or credit unions. I moved to The Mechanics Bank, which turns 100-years-old this year and is now in the third generation of family ownership. There are more restrictions on free checking accounts than CitiBank, but by moving my mother's account with her direct deposit of pension and ss, I was able to get free checking. they have online bill pay, so I can continue with that convenience and I can actually link the three accounts. CitiBank would only let me link two accounts. The office is quiet and pleasant and the people are really nice. Also, the stations are set up so you go in and sit down in a comfortable chair and transact business. This is only the third time I've been in the office and all three women greeted me by name. Another personal feature was the no-hassle acceptance of my mother's "credentials." (The only photo ID she has is a long-expired drivers license, but I explained that she was 91-years-old and wasn't going to come into the bank anyway.) A good choice for me. I urge you to look into supporting the little guys and move your money away from the corporate money changers.

1. mine is in a credit union - I got out of them 5 -7 years ago when
one started charging me a $1 a month for savings -

I thought I need out of here - so went with credit union - not as convenient - since it is out of state - but it works for me - I just have to plan ahead

22. Yes, it did. On a personal level for us and more globally too.
Edited on Fri Jan-21-05 12:11 AM by robbedvoter
It was written up in the media and trolls were send all over to tell us that "we'll hurt small businesses, waiters and stuff" so give it up". We made a point.

It has snowed upwards of four inches in parts of Indiana and Ohio making it difficult to shop. God is telling us something. :bounce:

9. I though about that very thing today
I think the Not One Damned Dime can be refined a bit. As in support your local businesses but not the big corps. Or maybe target certain businesses such as gas stations on, say, the second Tuesday of every month. Something to let the big guys know we're out here, but not to hurt the small businesses.

Soup, stew, beans, cornbread, and assorted desserts.

all yummy.

My company had given me a lunch coupon the other day so I had freelunch on the company, too.

Oh yeah. I wore black. There was a lot of black at my office today, but I don't know folks well enough yet to ask if it was deliberate, or just coincidence.

19. Had to get Tire Fixed!
And 6 guys are behind the counter. Place is dead silent. Next thing I know they're all looking up at the TV w/Bushite on (in waiting area) and boy did they get to talking!

All were various ages; colors, etc.. and each agreed, "They Hated the Day," and thanked me for wearing Black (they had to wear their uniforms).

I ran into several people, all ages groups wearing black. Oddly, each gave me a little nod of approval. It was grand!

Other then the tire getting a plug, I spent "not 1 damn dime!" And it was empowering!

But it made me feel good - as I said - it was my symbolic gesture to the junta:
WE AIN'T BUYING WHATCHA SELLIN'

Once again, thanks to all the nay sayiers in the morning who made me take this damn serious. Being in NYC, everyone I talked to was abiding by it (and I talked to many, trust me) I even made it WITHOUT CHOCOLATE!!!!!
