3. We start now!!! By contacting the voting members from
each of our states who will be voting on the new Chair of the DNC.

This vote takes place early February. If the grassroots bother to take the time to make their opinion known, then we may see the result of our voices in the vote.

9. Spineless is the right word!
Only two senators voted against Leeza Rice. The party has no spine.

4. Real as in when?
You mean real as in the forties, fifties and early to mid-sixties when it was happily home to Southern racists? The eighties when many buckled to pressure from the Reaganites?
The party has always been a mixed bag and had flaws; longing for some crude fantasy of a 'real' dem party past is no different from the longing for the good old days of Mrs. Cleaver and apple pie.

5. When they take that risk
of standing against the opposition instead of complaining about it and voting to support it.

6. when you do something about it
If you sit back and expect the big guys to take care of everything, this is what you get.

Join PDA, DFA, Progressive Majority or some other org and get going on fixing the problem.

10. Never, as long as 50% of the voting constituency remain
in the "zombie" state they are now in. They are 59 million zombies
waiting for their next instruction. More specifically, they have
suffered mind control brain damage at the hands of the "wizards of mass hypnosis". I am not speaking figuratively.

11. Like Jim Wallis quoted on TDS last night.
"We are the ones we are waiting for."
We must make the changes we want to see. We can continue to complain about our bad leaders or we can lead. We can whine about the war or we can fight for peace. We can cry about the injustice we see or we can stand up for what is right.

12. After the Age of Totalitarianism (BushPutinism) burns out
Based on the Soviert Union, one might think it will take 80 years.

Of course, Imperial Amerika shares much morer in common with Imperial Rome than the Soviet Union or Nazi Germany.

By that measure, we will never see an ACTUAL opposition Party to the Imperials ever again, at least until the next rennissance or Age of Enlightenment.

Based on the trends we see today, that is at least a century away, probably longer.

Sorry. Don't shoot the messenger.

14. Dems are spineless, I will no longer contribute to any of them unless
they start showing some back bone. Boxer is the only one who has a spine.

16. What are you doing to affect change?
Posting on a message board does exactly nothing. Ditto for blogs.

And let's say some miracle occurs and Rice gets defeated - what then? Do you people think Bush will nominate a liberal for Sec. of State? What outcome do you want? Keep defeating candidates so that we have no one leading the State Department?

I'm not arguing that Rice is great, I am just honestly curious as to what people want to happen. It seems that you all just want opposition to everything, and think nothing beyond that. What exactly are you for? What do you want done?

18. Easy. A no brainer.
Obviously, the party simply must function as a loyal oposition, fighting for the nearly 50% of the country who oppose the GOP agenda if we can hope to win. But that's only 30% of the battle.

When it comes right down to it, policy positions don't matter a lick if we're getting beaten in the strategy rooms and on the ground. And, believe me, we're getting beaten in the strategy rooms and on the ground--badly.

Policy positions can make elections close but we'll lose and lose some more until the party does a top-down housecleaning, jettisoning everyone with a proven track record of getting their asses kicked and replacing them with either new talent or those with a track record of winning. I personally know dozens of operatives who are twice as talented, three times as smart, and half as arrogant as the child-consultants currently organize, strategize, and speak for our campaigns. They're out there winning close state and congressional races while the entrenched status quoers lose high profile race after high profile race.

When--and only when--enough individual dem donors tell the DNC that we're cutting off the supply of cash until the party does what needs to be done, the powers that be will respond, and
