Doctors return to Colorado with difficult memories from work in Iraq
DENVER - Physicians who've recently returned from treating soldiers wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan say body armor and even the best medical technology can't prevent the crippling effect the rampant use of explosives is causing.

"The types of wounds are truly horrific," he says, holding photos of gruesome human suffering away from the view of our cameras. Amputations are already twice as high for this war as for those previous.

In past wars, troops had some warning as to how close to front lines they were. But in Iraq, the front lines are everywhere, and they change moment by moment. Dr. Brewer says the sheer terror of that is compounding physical injuries. The busiest docs in the field, he says, are the psychiatrists and psychologists
