They hate our country.
Yes, they profess to be patriots. They profess to support our troops. They wave the flag and chant nationalistic slogans. Yet, when we look at the facts, it is obvious they do not respect nor do they love our country. Why?

How could they sit silently by as our nation pyramids humans in an illegal war that has killed tens of thousands of people? Some even praise the acts. How could they not be concerned about how the rest of the world looks at us? Some even say, "Screw the UN!" How could they not question our troops dying for a bald-faced lie? How could they cheer USA! USA! USA! as our leaders commit atrocities in our name?

There is nothing aobut their actions that would tell me that they love our country. Everything they do seems to be a detriment to our country. By their works, they shall be known. They are enemies of our country.

3. I think of it as "symbolic patriotism".
They like the trappings of patriotism--the flags, the anthems, the slogans, but the actual work that goes into making and keeping the free, democratic society our forefathers believed in doesn't really mean much to them.

"My country, right or wrong" is like "My mother, drunk or sober". The whole point upon which our nation is founded is government by, for, and of the people. If we can't speak out, criticize or change direction, than we are without power, and this isn't really democracy. Our freedoms--which the White House alleges the terrorists hate us for--are our strength.

I read a quote somewhere that went "Better someone who burns the flag and wraps themselves in the Constitution, than one who burns the Constitution and wraps themselves in the flag." And I think that succinctly sums it up, to me. The symbolic patriot may equate speaking out against the atrocious actions of this government as being an outrage akin to burning the flag--but I say the damage done to our national reputation by acts of our government is the real outrage. Which action does then most harm?
