The greatest president we NEVER had... Al Gore
Edited on Fri Jan-14-05 04:48 PM by wyldwolf
Listening to Al Franken today and he had a guest on discussing a plan Al Gore was involved in while VP that would have created an early warning system for disasters like the tsunami tragedy.

It was basically blocked by Republicans.

Of course, Gore also worked on an aviation report in the late 90s to combat hijackings of planes. Had some of his measures been used, 9/11 may have been prevented.

It was basically blocked by Republicans.

1. I agree.
Along with RFK, he would have been one of the best ever. Instead, we got the worst.

4. I saw somewhere that he might run in 08'
it might be kind of cool to see the 'new' Al Gore run for office.

I never was a big fan of his but ever since 2000 he has this fire in him that I really dig.

I like the new balls-out Gore!

5. I agree totally
The so-called Progressives never gave Gore a chance. I don't know how many I have asked,"did you read Gore's book, Earth in the Balance?", and they would all say no. Gore was a "tree-hugger" before most of them knew what "Green" was all about. I feel such anger at those who voted Nader and said there was no difference between Gore and Bush. NONE OF THIS NIGHTMARE would be happening if GORE had been allowed to take his rightful place as Pres. None of the "establishment" party powers would back him, either, after he won--only the Congressional Black Caucus had the guts. Now we are treated to more of the same.
Gore would have made a great President!!! Kerry pales by comparison.
Gore tried to fight the results, but had no backing. Kerry didn't even try.

6. Al Gore is one of the most admirable figures in the party.
It's truly a shame that he ran such a lousy campaign. I wonder whether his magnificent speeches in the last 2 years (for MoveOn, etc) should be seen as the "real" Al Gore (ie, the guy that was always there, under the surface) -- or whether he experienced some profound internal changes after 2000 that developed latent parts of him that were simply not present in his prior public self.

7. lets say that 9/11 was inevitable
and although a Gore administration would have handled terror warning better it still would have happened. Gore would have been impeached and since a democrat proceeded him for 8 years, the democrats would have been crucified for not protecting america. it would have been a nightmare.

same thing if kerry got elected. the gop would have blamed Kerry for every setback and every problem and said they never had a chance to finish the job, thus their philosophy would never have been disproved, someone more right wing and radical would have taken kerry out.
