Mark Cuban, owner of Dallas Mavericks, asks bush to forgo inauguration
festivities and send the money to tsunami aid. Post a comment to this blog entry if you would like. I have. I am amazed to find myself agreeing with Mark Cuban. And probably even more amazed to read what he wrote. He posted a bit further down in the blog comments and sounded even more unhappy with bush than in the original blog entry!

http://www.blogmaverick.com/entry/1234000260025530/#c93012

Start by cancelling your inauguration parties and festivities.
Could there be anything more confusing and shocking than to read that our country was offering $35mm in aid to the areas affected by the Tsunamis, but that the cost of inauguration parties would be about $40mm?

Does anyone else think that this is wrong?

I realize that the cost for the inauguration is being picked up by corporate sponsors and people purchasing outrageously priced tickets. The question is why.

Why are all these corporations and people spending all that money? Hey I love a good party, but there ain’t no party like a $10,000 per ticket party. It’s a 10k dollar ass kissing. As an accountant, fund raiser when asked about the high prices to attend the Inaugural events told the NY Times, “its the cost of playing the game”.

2. ASKING him to
and knowing he won't, will bring public attention to the extravagant balls and parties and the cost of them. Contrast that to what is happening in Asia (people are now dying from lack of clean water, simple infections, etc) and looks like an even BIGGER bastard than he already IS!!!

So, yay!

20. FDR was a true leader who had a conscience
no way will King George forgo celebrating his second presidential election theft but I agree with previous posters, I love people like Mr. Cuban calling attention to the what an unseemly, obscene monstrosity this celebration will be.

15. Yep. Americans were sacrificing like crazy for the war effort, so he
thought it would be unseemly to have a massive shindig.

Of course, FDR was right on.

6. Funny, that's what I thought when the tsunami happened-he should
send the money to the stricken people and not have a big inauguration -

instead he sends 10,000 and keeps 40 million for his party.

I'm also wondering where are all those offshore corporations using that cheap labor, especially sri lanka, india, viet nam, thailand -
where are those coproations contributions - if any? and I say if any,
cause if they were giving, you can bet they would be publicizing it.

Hello Nike?, and all the dress companies, and how much did Walmart give?

7. Exactly.
AND there's a war going on and US servicemembers dying every day!!! Sheesh. If those two things aren't reason enough to call off some over the top ostentatious balls, I don't know what is.

Honestly? I'd be ashamed to hold such vulgar displays of wealth right now. Seriously. But then that would require bush and his supporters to have a sense of humility. And that's requiring a bit too much for them.

Very interesting to read. I am not able to keep up with people like Mr. Cuban, so I did not know much about him. He makes some excellent points that any person with a heart would think up on their own. Ah, sadly, Bush is not one of those people. :(

If he does the right thing and sends the money to Tsunami relief, It's good for the people. If he does the predictable, he shows everyone his callous idiot side.

18. i just thought of something...
maybe we should start sending massive emails, disguisted as conservatives, to the White House, asking them to forgo the inauguration...that might freak out Bush into thinking he'd lose Republican support if he didn't do it.

These are 'payback' celebrations and parties for corporations that helped Bush turn America into a corporate state. Does anyone really believe that they give a crap what the 'commoners' think?

24. Pictures and Caption
I think that about thirty seconds after the first pictures of the "coronation" hit the Net, we need to post a picture of the bash side-by-side with a picture of Iraq with Chimpy's quote about politics being the "Ultimate Sacrifice" underneath and send it everywhere we can think of.

Yeah. Life must be hell, George.

I'm a Dallasite and I love Mark Cuban.

He does a lot of good for the community.

I also liked his TV show, it was interesting.

I emailed him once and he emailed me back. :)

Confession... I also think he is a cutie pie.

I'm glad to hear of his challenge to Bush.*
