The Bernie Kerik brouhaha is a Rovian smokescreen for what?
This whole episode is smelling like the Fulton Fish Market or Karl Rove's dirty drawers. This reminds me of the Dan Rather fiasco with the Bu$h Air Guard memos. Something is up folks. The Bu$h regime did not get sucker-punched by this two-bit hood. They are using Kerik for something. Beware! Verb sap!

1. I was soooooooooo thinking the same thing!
Do you suppose it's a cover for the O'Keefe exit from NASA? They have to be worried about this whole Curtis--Nee--NASA connection.

10. I assume you are refering to Clinton Curtis. I agree. It is explosive!
According to Randi Rhodes, the Florida DOT investigator that was working on Curtis's allegations was found dead in a Valdosta, Georgia motel with "slashed arms." Then Curtis found his otherwise healthy dog, a German shepherd, dead. Keep your eye on the ball, not on Rove's decoys!

15. I so agree with you
there is a reason behind this selection. The WH knew the truth about this guy, the press knew it, his life is an open book. My first thought was, what is the WH up to? Do you think this might take the heat off of Rummy?

3. to show how stupid they are.......some vetting process they did.
They all make Kerik out to be something special. I've seen his kind before in my 30 yrs of LE experience. I work in a small town and you always have a couple of back stabbers or a-- kissers. He went to Iraq to setup the police, what a joke. He got himself out of dodge so quick. They still do not have a stable force over there, so that shows you he had no real skills. He is just a name & a face.

Maybe they will move Asskroft into the job.

4. Nah
Kerik was an obvious choice for many, just turns out they should have paid better attention to someone actually being able to do something and stay above the law then paying back some political favours with a tough-looking fellow.

6. Kerik's resume is initially impressive
Giuliani's clean-up cop. He has the redemption narrative they love to use to spin for all their leaders. Organized the Iraqi police force, never mind he was an abject failure at that, but Bush thinks everything is rosy over there so he probably didn't know that. He is a close political ally. Looks the part of tough cop. Was in charge on September 11th. Is a strong Republican known for intense loyalty.

Liddy is doing to well for himself as a Republican shrill to want to come back and subject himself to that

so would John Timoney (Dep Comr) or Wm. Bratton (Comr.) then again they left Rudy too. Seems the administration is looking for a person they can control.

and there are much better candidates. But spin is more important than reality to these people and Kerik had a much better story and image which they could play with.

Multiple (masters?) degrees, smart and accomplished, former member of, or emissary, to Interpol so he knows international shit. All in all, a far, far, far better choice .... and he looks and acts like anything *but* a thug.

for the administration making lemonade out of lemons is watching Hillary and Chuck backpeddle on this one.

I also think that they knew his nomination wouldn't fly any more than an ATR-42 with a load of ice on the wings. I mean, look at his lifestyle! He lives like a Mafia prince among Mafia princes in Mafia Never-Never-Land, New Jersey (Exit 15). If I run for office as a liberal Democrat, they are going to trot out some former R.O.N. Kitten in Omaha who gave me two steaks and a butt-twitch for a big Jet-A buy in the Lockheed JetStar II. Kick back. Illegal. Unfit for office. Of course I was flying for Ken Lay, at the time!

this is one of the best reasons yet put forth. they knew about his "colorful" past, they knew there were lots of serious credible or at least unexplained allegations of corruption, mob-ties, and the like.

what better way to start the tarnishing of giuliani than to show who his friends & confidants are?

whether for jeb, or just to stop control of the party from passing to a socially liberal pro-choice northeast italian in 08. someone they dont/cant control. so rove keeps the evangelical hillbillies happy.

doesn't get so much publicity since the big corps who own big media want them to stay in power so that they can expand their own power at the rest of America's expense.

Also, it's after the election so they don't fear a public backlash so just like back in 2003 they are reporting more of the Bush fraud than they would report closer to the election.

Not that torching this thug is a bad thing but Bernie seems to like to play angles and that doesn't pass the Bu$h loyalty test. Methinks Bu$h wanted to embarrass Rudy G., too. King George is the true hero of 9/11, the others were just bit players.

Calm, almost like I'm sedated, and I realized just a bit ago, while reading a story about the fucked-up voting in Ohio that's going to be on Page One of the Washington Post tomorrow, that I'm so confident that Fuckface is in the process of going up in flames, I'm just quietly waiting for the end.

For the Post to put a story like this one Page One - I can't tell you what a big deal it is, because it's my damn newspaper, and it's been doing nothing but kisses Fuckface's ass for four years now, letting him walk on everything, and burying anything even remotely pro-Democrat inside, among the Hecht's and Macy's ads.

The worm is turning, and its name is Fuckface.

34. Fucking right on OldLeftieLawyer. It's my [[toilet] paper too!
But I've stopped buying it and read only left overs at the Tastee Diner.

There is something up. The Washington Post story is much better than the Times piece and it goes on and on. Leaves lots of room for further development.

* must have pissed off the "general committee" or whoever the fuck runs things around this country. Time to have the old smack-down, I hope.

Just remember, "plus ca change, plus ca la meme chose." Ain't life a bitch. Who will the new Spokes Model be for Corporate America?

Our only chance is that the TRUTH comes out and turns into a run-away train. This will require * to use the "F" word or conspicuously grope some babe (both on tape) to alienate his core group.

38. I'm wearing my stylish tinfoil hat this morning but
I'll throw this out for consideration - what if Kerik is exactly what BushCo thought he was but really didn't have a choice but to nominate him to the Homeland Security position? Kerik does have mob connections so it out of the realm of possibility that Georgy/Rove are in bed with a nefarious group of knee breakers who can help out when it comes to dirty deeds? There is no telling who BushCo and Rove owe what to whom for the delivery of this election. There is a lot of money floating around in the budget for security and why wouldn't a group of "businessmen" want to get in on the action?

Kerik was just too dirty for them not to have a clue into this guy's past, qualifications, associates, etc, but thought they could push his appointment with a "mandate from the people" and encouragement from the "guys who knows a guys."

I just don't trust anything that comes from this administration and have learned over the last four years nothing is as simple or straight forward as they try to portray. If their lips are moving - then they are lying, someone is dying and they are making money off the events.

Just my two cents.
