What is the mood of the Democrats on the "Hill"?
Are they ready to be an aggresive opposition? Could they actually put together a filibuster? Do they really think Social Security is worth fighting for? Or are they in a defeated and submissive mode? Will they simply show up and rubber stamp the radical agenda of the Bush Administration? We should have no doubts.

1. Are you kidding?
They've got their cushy jobs and fat salaries and nothing to worry about for the next 2-6 years.

if you live and die by the democratic party -- well you are likely to see what they do in a positive light.
i mean we have people here who defend the dlc, even.
if you are more naturally a skeptic and of a cynical nature -- you'll see it differently.
and then there is everything in between.

me, i'm skeptical and cynical.
if politicians aren't about good socialist prinicipals -- well i'm generally less than thrilled.

6. Well there was a thread just now
about Barbara Boxer calling Bushco on the Kerik thing. I thought that was pretty cool of her. But as a united front I don't see too much opposition going on, I hope they surprise me.

7. They're OUTRAGED!!! INDIGNANT!!! INCENSED!!!
that the lobbyists from the AARP only bought them the 10 oz. filet at The Palm when they specifically asked for the 24 oz. porterhouse.

Folks, if you're waiting for an elected official to start the revolution, go back to bed.

WE're going to have to go to war against the media and the GOP, just like the rethugs did in the late 80's and early 90's. It's going to be tough battle and a long one--and elected officials are entrenched party operatives are going to be among the last, not the first to sign up. That's just the way it works.

9. Bravo!
Our side is just as married to the global economy and big business as the other so why do we keep expecting them to act on our behalf if they have nothing to gain from it?

These people are P-O-L-I-T-I-C-I-A-N-S, careerists who need to get re-elected and to have the support of those who sit next to them. It'd be great to dream we come first on their list of priorities but I've seen no evidence of that.

What would the political landscape look like with no lobbyists?
