7. "The Case for Democracy," soon to be the RadRight/NeoCon bible.
Trust me--HE isn't reading it.

From Publisher's Weekly November #3:

Drawing on his autobiography-from Soviet refusenik to Israeli cabinet minister - Sharansky distinguishes between "fear" and "free" societies. He spends a significant amount of time taking on conservative "realists" who prize stability in international relations, as well as liberals who he says fail to distinguish between flawed democracies that struggle to implement human rights and authoritarian or totalitarian states that flout human rights as a matter of course. Sharansky criticizes those who argue that democracy is culturally contingent and therefore unsuited for Muslim societies. Turning to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, he mentions documented Israeli human rights abuses, but places the bulk of the blame for the conflict on the dictatorial systems prevalent in Arab societies. He also weighs in on the vexing subject of how to distinguish legitimate criticism of Israel from the "new anti-Semitism." Such criticism must pass the "3D" test of " demonization, double standards, or delegitimation." Sharansky does not grapple deeply with the current situation in Iraq, but his opinions throughout, honed through years in a Soviet prison and in the corridors of power, feel earned. 6. read amazon's book reviews on that book!
Read Amazon's reviews to get a sense of the book...

sounds like Bush is seizing on the whole "spread democracy" tenet as his founding ideology....

the problem is no one has told him (or he hasn't heard) that you can't spread democracy BY FORCE!

I have access to a nice book distribution db...

Edit: aldo note that it is published by an imprint of Perseus Books, with direct ties to the RadRight TAX-EXEMPT think tanks, though I'm not certain right now which one it is.

10. on 11/13 he was on page 210 (out of 286 pages)
In a related development, Minister-without-Portfolio Natan Sharansky met Thursday in the White House with Bush for over an hour discussing his new book, The Case for Democracy: The Power of Freedom to Overcome Tyranny and Terror.

According to Sharansky's office, Bush invited Sharansky and told him he had already read 210 of the book's 286 pages. Sharansky told Bush that "Very few people in the world believe like you do in the ideal of democracy for all people. You are going against the flow, and are the world's dissident."

A few hours before meeting Bush, Sharansky met with National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, who said that she, too was reading his book, at Bush's recommendation.
