Administration Must Be Held Accountable For Unjust Iraq War-Kucinich
ADMINISTRATION MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR UNJUST WAR IN IRAQ -- (House of Representatives - December 06, 2004)

GPO's PDF

---

(Mr. KUCINICH asked and was given permission to address the House for 1 minute and to revise and extend his remarks.)

Mr. KUCINICH. Mr. Speaker, nearly 1,300 brave American men and women have sacrificed their lives in Iraq. Yet the central reasons for the U.S. invasion have fallen apart: Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction, there is no proof that Iraq was instrumental with al Qaeda's role in 9/11, and Iraq was not trying to get nuclear materials from Najir.

This administration misled the Congress, misled the American people, violated international law, directed the bombings of populated areas causing the disruption of water, sewer, and electrical service, ordered house-to-house fighting, and now, the civilian toll, by one account, is over 100,000 Iraqi civilians perished. Why?

Freedom, if it is to be obtained anywhere, must be advanced under the standard of truth. The Iraqis will not be handed freedom based on lies, nor will our own Nation preserve our freedoms if we continue to accept the basis for our occupation of Iraq.

This administration must be held accountable under international law for the disaster it visited upon Iraq. Only the truth can clean the stain on our Nation's conscience.

so we can know exactly what negative consequences to expect after Bu$h signs it.

DK always seems to get it right.

17. Well...considering that it was generated in a commission that was a
complete sham and cover-up and that it is basically a mechanism for turning us into a police state, why not?

ANYTHING that came out of the bogus 9-11 commission should not be trusted.

6. "held accountable under international law"
I wonder what he has in mind? I would like him to call for impeachment. Maybe he just wants to turn Bush over to an international criminal court. hehe cool

In the primaries, it seemed DU was filled with the former, but surprisingly lacking in the latter. A Kucinich loss (and in this culture, unfortunately, it would certainly have been a loss) would have really been something exciting and perhaps ground-shaking.

edit: I would prefer to win, of course, but sometimes I think we should say "damn it all" and fight until the finish rather than inexorably get dragged into supporting policies that are destroying what ideals we have left in the interest of winning.

consider Dems that stand up for what used to be called priniples. The Dems Party screwed up by trying to compete with the Rethugs regarding the illegal invasion of Iraq and not standing by their principles.

9. Don't you know that liberals can't get elected?
That's what everybody says. At least we guarantee that they won't be elected since most liberals never have the courage to make the effort to elect one of their own. People complain about leaders not having courage. Well, the people show a big lack of courage too when they fail to support someone who represents their ideals because they're afraid liberals can't get elected.

10. Well, then we should be working to change that
If we focus exclusively on working to win while the conservatives focus on winning AND moving the debate to the right, we are in serious trouble, because we will move to the right along with them. I don't advocate giving up on all Democrats who don't pass some liberal litmus test, but I am all for reshaping the debate and refusing to come up with a platform that is built with our takes on GOP-designed planks.

16. I don't see the current
leadership working to win with a will or common sense or the ability to learn. Accepting a fraudulent game without acknowledging that the GOP is more a gangland syndicate than a party is to surrender one's own sense of party. If you are going to be a REAL party of the people you throw over the crooked table, not sit there like some rube thinking luck will have to come his way.

They have a will to cautiously win the hearts and minds of 2% of the so-called swing voters who don't know down from up. That is absurd as are all the eager little strategies they employ that ignore the utter criminality and crisis we are in.

18. Thanks so much for posting this
Dennis Kucinich was my candidate. He was one of the few in Congress with the courage to vote against the Iraq war, and to continue speaking out. I've missed hearing his brave and intelligent voice. Thanks.:-)

Thank you, Dennis Kucinich.

But of course, DK must be a figment of our imaginations, since we are continually told that it is only by pandering to the Right that we can win.
