1. Not much of a choice here.
That's it? Hillary or Edwards? No thanks.

16. Edwards did not even pull his home state of NC into the Kerry camp
The question should be: Which candidate can turn some red states into a blue states.

2. I don't like either
Both will get attacked in ad hominid attacks. I'd rather get somebody new. I'd rather have someone like Dean, who you can respect for having convictions. Bushies would have tried to paint him as a crazy liberal, but the flip flopper thing couldn't have stuck.

3. Hillary.
Hillary is more than just a great First Lady, she is the image for the modern American women, but some Ms. Cleaver wannabe bitch like Barbara and Laura Bush. I rather see history in the making with the first woman President.

Besides, I don't trust Edwards since he gave chimpy the authorization for the Iraq "war".

6. Hillary or Edwards?
I LOVE Hillary and Dean for their convictions, but don't think either have a chance in 2008 at this time. The right wing (ahem...mainstream) media would have a "liberal bashing" field day with either. Maybe Kerry should think 2008? I think he addressed the "flip-flop" charged well in the first debate, but it came too late.

19. What convictions?
Hillary proves daily that she has none. Voted for the Iraq war, for the 87 billion, and just recently for the disgusting budget bill with the restrictive abortion information amendment.

BTW, welcome to DU

38. We keep saying the people we like the most don't stand a chance...
everyone is too liberal to win, but if we keep sending out middle of the road, watered down, democrats who nobody (including Democrats) finds very appealing won't we contribute to the portrayal of flip flopping, compromising chumps that the Right is trying to create? I say gimme a candidate that I can have a passion for, some one who says what they believe and stands by it no matter what the Conservatives say about him (or her) and makes the democratic part appear strong. It's not gonna be an overnight change...but I think over time it will produce better results than...well Kerry or Gore...

11. Hillary gave Bush enthusiastic support for the Iraq war.
Also, are you only supporting Hillary because you want a woman in the White House? That's not very pragmatic.

... and he'd be running for his second term.

Really, it's far too early to be thinking about 2008 yet. 2004 hasn't even been resolved.

But he would have to surround himself with experienced advisers and pollsters and have a bunch of specific proposals to win.

Was it just the electoral results? Or was there something about him personally that you had not expected?

34. Both would be sucky candidates
Hillary would lose in a landslide and edwards wouldnt do any better than kerry (he could possible get iowa but that wouldnt win it for him). He WOULD NOT get any southern states. I never expected him to win NC for kerry but i did expect him to make it closer than it had been with gore. He failed there. It was the same loss. So how would he do any better in the south?

39. It's up to Hillary
If she runs, she will win the nomination easily.

I think she'd also do well in the general election.

No offense against Edwards, but I don't think he added a whole lot to Kerry's campaign.

42. Is this for being the nominee
or whom we would prefer as president?

I'd prefer Edwards on both counts. Granted, I wouldn't prefer that he be the nominee in '08, but over Hillary definetely.

Hillary would be a terrible candidate. She'd be a decent president, but I haven't been impressed with her record so far. She's really given into a lot of the Bush agenda. I don't really trust or like her.

I still can't figure out the point of putting a southerner on the ticket and then not bothering to fight for a single southern state.

And from the others that might run Clark would be my second. I wanted Kerry to pick Clark this time but he istead picked Edwards. I like Edwards and all that but I still think Clark would have been a better choice than Edwards.

48. Neither
Someone like Russ Fiengold should run in 2008. We need someone who is willing to fight for Democratic goals and stand up to the Republican Party. Fiengold has done that. In addition, he has pushed for campaign finance reform.

I think both John Edwards and Hillary Clinton are weak candidates in that they continually move to the center. I believe they both voted for the Patriot Act and the Iraq War. It does seem; however, that John Edwards could pick up some Republican votes. The only problem with this is the idea that if he picks up a few Republican votes would he lose some Democratic votes.

Finally, Russ Fiengold or someone like him should be picked to run for President in 2008. I do believe he could win in that he has really stood up to the Republicans and fought for Democratic ideas. In addition, he won his own and got 60% of the votes in that state. I think Fiengold should at least be encourage to enter the primaries.
