Kerry casts eye toward Senate re-election
By Noelle Straub
Friday, November 26, 2004

WASHINGTON - Sen. John F. Kerry plans to file the paperwork this week to establish his Senate re-election campaign committee, called ``Friends of John Kerry ,'' keeping the door open to running again for his seat in 2008.

The Bay State senator also has not ruled out making another presidential run that year.

Candidates running for the U.S. Senate by law must register with the Federal Election Commission once they receive contributions or make expenditures in excess of $5,000.

After registration, the candidate's campaign committee must file quarterly reports to disclose all the money they take in and spend.

1. In another words,
he's setting up a slush fund, with leftover campaign money.

His seat doesn't expire till 2008?

2. What in the world would he be "slushing"?
Possibly he's getting money together to help out other Democrats in 2006, as well as his own potential run(s) in 2008.

4. The money left over from his Presidential race..... obviously
he needs a legal place to deposit the funds.

6. But that's not a "slush fund."
Perhaps I'm being too exact over definitions, but this endless Kerry bashing is a little silly. Gore sucked after 2000, now Kerry sucks, Daschle sucks, McAuliffe sucks, it just seems Democrats suck. They are weak, cowardly, foolish, have no idea how to run a political campaign or party, and now they are dishonest.

8. Seems to me, when you end a campaign
with that much money, & you lose, something went wrong.

Seems to me, when the Senate & House Dems have to borrow money at the end of a campaign, yet the Prez candidate has enough money to establish a fund for a race 4 years from now, something went wrong.

Seems to me, when Senate candidates, like Mongiardo in Kentucky, who came so close to winning, & said he lost for lack of funds, something went wrong.

BTW, I never said Gore sucked, never said Dashle sucked; I defended both on this board, so no, I don't think all Dems suck.

9. So something went wrong and it's all Kerry's fault?
And I wasn't pointing a finger at you, but the general atmosphere here. It's getting to the point where the name of this place should be changed to bashdemocratsunderground.com

11. No, it's not all Kerry's fault.
But the national Dems are not happy that they were so short of money, & he had so much left over.

As far as bashing at DU, some of it is over the top, but remember, there are lots of disappointed people.

In this campaign cycle, the grassroots did the best job I've ever seen, & for the first time we were financially competetive with Repubs. Now, if people feel they didn't get an equal effort from the candidate, perhaps they have a right to be dissatisfied.

Look at all the state races: from what I have seen, Kerry ran behind the local candidate in votes. A party looks to the top of the ticket to have coat tails, & give a boost to the ticket. In this case, Kerry did not help in terms of momentum, money, etc.

I don't mean to be argumentative, but an airing of feelings, & an analysis of what went wrong will be necessary to improve in 2006.
Because if we keep doing things the same way, we will keep losing.
