Vilsack Won't Seek Chairmanship of DNC
"These challenges and opportunities require more time than I felt I could share," Vilsack said in a statement. "As a result I will not be a candidate for DNC chairman."

Earlier this month, Vilsack, an ally of failed presidential nominee John Kerry, telephoned several Democratic National Committee members as he traveled in Europe, seeking their advice and asking them to withhold their endorsement of any candidate until he decided whether to seek the job.

The 400-plus DNC membership meets in February to select a replacement for Terry McAuliffe, who is not seeking another term....

8. Can you tell me why labor leaders didn't like her?
And why her appointment would be good if she is going to alienate them.

I really don't know much about her.

10. I didn't realize that
But it could be because she worked for Ron Brown, who was Commerce Secretary before he passes away.

7. That was my major concern with Vilsack
is that this is a full time job to rebuild the party and he is still Governor of Ia for two years. I'm glad he recognized this problem.

9. Very Good News
I'm in favor of Dean but if Simon Rosenberg is chosen that would be good too. Earlier I'd heard of the possibility of a Dean/Rosenberg tag team, which would also be great. These two guys have already been doing much of the important work that the party needs. They're both not afraid of a fight. I'm so relieved to hear that Vilsack is out of the running. I'm sure he's a great guy but I don't think he's the right person at all to lead this party into the next election cycle.
:toast: to Vilsack for doing the right thing and to Dean and Rosenberg - let's start the campaign to get these two guys in there. DFA and NDN are both good organizations.

11. No ! We must saddle
the party with more New Englanders who cannot carry enough states to win an election, or help elect a Senate in 06 to stop some of the RW idiots.
