Democrat Ohio Rep switches parties
Edited on Fri Nov-19-04 06:44 PM by Bullshot
Derrick Seaver, who represents a state House district in west-central Ohio, held a news conference to announce he officially will switch from a Democrat to a Republican only two weeks after being re-elected unopposed.

Seaver gained national notoriety when he was elected to his House seat in 2000 at the age of 18.

Seaver came out in support of Bush for President in September.

During his news conference he attacked Democrats from the state, local and national levels for supporting "the policies of a candidate like John Kerry."

That's where I have a problem with Seaver switching parties. What do you mean "the policies of a candidate like John Kerry," Mr. Seaver? As opposed to the policies of a candidate like George Bush, who lied this country into a war whose death toll is over 100,000 and shows no end of letting up?

Who spread cooked intelligence across the country to make his case in going to war?

Who has been involved in several business ventures and has failed every time?

Who has a record of alcohol and drug abuse?

Whose administration has funneled billions of dollars in no-bid contracts to the company his vice-president used to lead and still has financial connections with?

Keep in mind, Mr. Seaver, that you're joining the party which has had total control of Ohio for the past 12 years, and I don't ever remember this state being in worse financial shape. Republican governors have run this state for the past 14 years; Republicans have controlled both the House and Senate for the past 12 years; and have held every elected cabinet position for the past 10.

If this is the kind of party you're more comfortable with, then go. But don't cry when this state's and nation's economies collapse under your party's watch. And it will happen.

14. I don't see how you can *possibly* say that.
Really good guy?

Please examine the definition of "good". I will only accept "guy" being applied to Rep. Seaver at this time.

12. The more I learn about Ohio, the more it sucks.
The place cares more about F-ing football than it does about the country.

13. Why Isn't This Guy Enlisting?
He's of age, he loves Bush -- he'd do more good going through Basic Training and fighting the ter-rists in Fallujah, wouldn't he?

Besides, if he enlists now he'll avoid the long lines that are coming.

17. Age 18?
" elected to his House seat in 2000 at the age of 18."

That can't be right. Congressmen have to be at least 25, and senators have to be 30. Did they change that when I wasn't looking?

19. You can legally run for a state rep seat at that age in Ohio.
Seaver appeared on either Letterman or Leno shortly after he was first elected because of his age.

In another six years, he'll be term-limited. He can do what other Ohio legislators have done, and that's switch seats with the state senator of his district, and give him a few more years of service in the Ohio legislature.

It's kinda funny, but that tactic has been done almost exclusively by Republicans in Ohio. And that's the party that expresses so much disdain for having government in our lives. I guess if it lines their pockets, that's different.
