You know...I don't know a single person who likes George Bush
Seriously. I don't know a single person who likes him. Most people I know really can't stand him. My daughter and I were just talking about this and she said that everyone she knows seems to hate Bush. I honestly don't see how Bush can beat anyone in 2004 because frankly, he doesn't have the support to win.

Just an observation I felt like sharing.

1. Come get an apartment in Nashville.
You'll meet quite a few folks who think W is God's representative on Earth. I wish I were kidding about that last statement.

12. God, I wish you were, too.
I'm a fellow Nashvillian. There's a young lady I worked with recently, who had purchased some of the W merchandise from Dubya's online store. She thinks he's the nicest sweetest guy, no matter what his politics are.

Gahhhh!

15. Yup
If you have been watching C-Span, you will hear dozens of callers stating that George Bush is the greatest and most honest presedent other than Ronald Reagan, and like the one I heard on C-Span today in which one person calling on the Republicans line who stated that George Bush was gods chosen candidated, selected to kill Muslims for Jesus.

The nation is deeply divided between those who love George Bush, or those who hate him, with very few sitting on the fence in between.

Given that most polls still indicate that George Bush is currently still considerably ahead of any Democratic candidate running against him, the battle to get Bush out of office will still be an uphill race after the nomination.

3. I agree with you...
I live in the deep south, in MISSISSIPPI, and in November or October, in MISSISSIPPI (!) a poll showed that only 49% of Mississippians would vote for Bush in 2004. ONLY 49%!

30% would vote for a Democrat, for sure, and 20% said they were undecided.

If you would have conducted that poll two years ago, the numbers would have been 70% for Bush.

Mississippi has historically been a Democratic state. Let's hope what is going on in Mississippi is going on nationwide.

That poll was conducted before the O'Neill revelations and before the space announcement. I imagine his numbers now would be closer to 40% if that high.

5. It depends on what part of the country you live in -
here in Virginia Beach, VA (red state, concentrated military sites) they all appear to love him. They are definitely in the "we have to support our (p)resident no matter what. It is truly disheartening and frustrating to have any kind of a political discussion with those whose minds are completely closed. The land of the brainwashed.

8. I was just thinking the same thing....
I don't know anybody who is voting for Bush. I hang with mostly teachers, though.

I went to visit my parents this Christmas and they live in Freeperville - right outside a major military base. I promised myself I'd be good and not bring up politics - but everybody who did bring up Bush spoke negatively. I still remember one of my parents' neighbors, a former Captain and somebody still connected to the military through contracts with his private employer: "Bush? That guy's a major facist!"

while the puppeteers behind the scenes run the show.

I would love to know whether these same people who "like" him so much would feel the same way--keeping the policies exactly the same--about Rove or Cheney sitting in that seat.

10. Anyone seen polling done on military?
The handful of retired officers I've spoken with all have grave doubts or utter hatred towards Rumsfeld and Bush*. I was wondering if anyone has released a poll of enlisted men and women and officers.

13. Military Times Poll
Edited on Mon Jan-19-04 04:25 PM by teach1st
As Reported by DAWN, "Pakistan's English language newspaper"

http://www.dawn.com/2004/01/01/int9.htm

WASHINGTON: About two-thirds of the active-duty US military approve of President George W. Bush's overall performance, while the same percentage of officers consider themselves Republicans , according to an unprecedented poll released here on Tuesday.

The "Military Times Poll", conducted by the publishers of the 'Army Times' and the independent newspapers of the three other major services, also found that most of the active-duty military considers itself very much a breed apart, morally superior to both US society and its civilian leadership.

In addition, the survey, which was based on 933 written responses to a survey sent to 2,500 enlisted personnel and officers, found that the overwhelming majority of those queried believe that US forces are being stretched too thin by Bush's "war on terrorism" and that only 56 per cent believed the president was handling the Iraq war well.

Compared to the US public at large, the military considers itself clearly more conservative and Republican, according to the survey, which might be the first to measure the political and related beliefs of a broad cross-section of active-duty enlisted personnel and officers in the major services.

Edited to correct the title

That poll was interesting, and pretty much to be expected. I wonder if there is a greater difference among retired officers and enlisted men as opposed to active duty. My experience indicates there is.

14. You obviously don't live in Nebraska, or anywhere in the red states...
for that matter. His support out here is ludicrously high and has wavered little.

He's not polling near 50% nationally because everyone hates him - that's for sure. It's going to take a strong candidate and a concerted effort to beat him in November.

Keep in mind that your "poll sample" is in a relatively liberal state that also happens to have produced the current front-runner on the Democratic side. And, as others have noted, we tend to associate with those who are similar to ourselves.

16. You haven't been canvassing for your candidate then
I've met several.

Of course I don't "know" them. But birds of a feather flock together so that might explain why a person with a strong dislike of Bush wouldn't have any close friends who do.

Up until recently I assumed all of my friends were Democrats but that was just naiveté. The good news is that most of my friends who admit they're Republicans like Clark over Bush.

23. I wish I could say the same
but here in Virginia there are too many bush supporters. I think they're just being stubborned partisans, because no one in their right mind would support bush after all the damage he has done.

This morning I saw an anti-Clinton bumper sticker on a beat-up trunk as I was driving to work. If there are still people around who hang onto their pointless Clinton hatred, they'll be hanging onto their bush love just as much.

(mother & three brothers) think he's just peachy! They like pretty much everything about him though, to be fair, they have been mildly critical on how the IWR 'story' seems to keep shifting a bit.

Naturally, they blame that on the media and democrats attacking him!

31. Want to share a letter from my local paper
This letter is from a person I know. It mentions other people I know. I am leaving out the names but want to share the feelings of this Bush supporter. I think it's very important that we realize that these people are out there. We have a LOT of work to do.

Here's the letter:
Dear Editor,
I am writing this letter in response to Mr. **'s letter printed in the Citizen dated Jan. 15.
It saddens me to read those hateful letters you have been writing of late regarding the president of the United States. History will decide whether or not he is or was a bad, good, or in my opinion a great president. Those things are not what bothers me. I will go to my grave to give you the right to opine any and every view you might have of the administration. It is the personal attacks I don't understand.
Have you or ** met the president? Does he consult the two of you on affairs of state? Both foreign and domestic? I would be led to believe that, from reading your letters. It's as if you actually sit in on cabinet meetings or National Security Meetings.
Actually, I think your information comes from websites devoted to no reason except to shame, disgrace and ultimately overthrow the president.
As for your using ousted Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill's hateful, unproven accusations as proof of crimes by the president: You should consider the source. O'Neill is nothing more than a fired employee with an axe to grind and a book to sell.
Should we, as a nation, wait until another attack on the Cole or, God forbid, another attack on our own soil before we take the war to our enemy? I think not. And I pray, Mr. **, that you, too, would think not.
Get past your personal dislike for the president and look at the health, safety, and general welfare of the United States.

35. Unfortunately, I know many Bush followers
Soem are dupes, following something which is actually the opposite of what they are actually following or partial at best.

Some are just mean jerks with a Nazi streak.

But don't kid yourself. Many MANY people are fooled by the Emperor and his Imperial Pravda. Even more stopped caring about anyone;s freedom other than their own, which is the same really as not believeing in freedom at all.

I am afraid that there are a hard core of Brownshirts and Good Germans following lazily in their wake that WILL vote for Bunnypants*

I am convinced that, through both direct and indirect, electronic and "manual" means, our "voting" system is so compromised that a Democrat would have to beat Bunnypants* by 8% just to eke out a "close 1% victory".

37. Personal anecdotes are worthless
Lots of young, idealistic liberals didn't know a single person who liked Richard Nixon in 1972, but he ended up carrying 49-states and 60 percent of the popular vote that fall.

George W. Bush may be an idiot and a failure, but don't delude yourself into thinking that the rest of America is like Vermont or Berkeley or New York. Remember, Bush got over 50 million votes and almost won the presidency last time. There are lots and lots of people out there who can identify with his stupidity, his phony religious beliefs, and his arrogance; he will not be easy to beat in November.
