Our Democratic Party, Not Yours
Imagine tomorrow morning you woke up, and you found out that there were suddenly 2 WalMarts. A management struggle had split the company down the middle. Suspend your disbelief for a moment...

Suddenly, new Walmarts started popping up next to old WalMarts. Customers didn't know which Walmart was which. One WalMart was a union shop and sold more products that were made in America, the other WalMart was discount business as usual.

The union WalMart invested in the community that supported it. It helped create grants for small businesses and donated computers to local schools.

The other WalMart sold cheap stuff from China, as always.

There would no doubt be legal battles over which company had the right to use the WalMart logo, but if each company has some legitimate claim, for instance, if the company were privately held and the controlling family split into two opposing factions, each with an equal share of control, it would be difficult to determine who had the right to do what, when to do it, and where it would be done.

Now imagine we were talking about the Democratic party instead of WalMart. How difficult would it be to simply ban together, reject the current leaders of the party, and say:

"From now on, the Original Democratic Party rejects the illegitimate takeover attempts made by the DLC. The DLC has abandoned the party of Jefferson and Roosevelt in their attempts to help create a more conservative America."

No, Vilsack is not the DNC Chair, Howard Dean is."

"Why? Because we say so, thats why, and we're the Democratic Party."

How far could you get on chutzpah? Is there legal precedent for such open rebellion? Wasn't the Protestant Reformation the same concept, within a religious environment?

2. Wouldn't be the first time the Democratic Party split down the middle

Look what happened in 1968 during the Vietnam War. If we're talking about fighting corporatism infecting our leaders in the party, not necessarily democrats who are truly moderate instead of corporatist, then I'm game. It's time corporate power be smashed.

4. Well, I think that I'm going to do that in a way ...

if they don't put in Howard Dean as Chairman, then all my $ will be going to Democracy for America, and establishing a networked progressive caucus within the Democratic party that is tied to DFA. Howard Dean met with the head of Progressive Democrats.

Anyway, if we donate enough to DFA, then that will pay for a salary for Dr. Dean, carrying out his duties at Democracy for America, and he can continue being a heckraiser. And the centrists will certainly need the progressives' cooperation in order to elect a candidate. So, we can have our profound influence, one way or another, legally, fairly and squarely.

Just an idea.

There are many ways to accomplish the goal.

6. Right on.
I've already decided that I want what Dean's got.

I don't care if he's legitimized by the party title.

7. seems like he's the only one who constantly 'tells it like it is'
PROBLEM with this approach....there's a SLIGHT obligation that the media have the DNC chairperson on shows now and then.....no obligation to have Dean

10. sure you can, just
say it over and over and when your local radio/tv station you love to hate comes up for license renewal, make sure you call them and tell them you are gonna oppose their license renewal because they have not met their legal obligations as spelled out in their license.

that always gets their attention :-)

9. But the good thing is that Dr. Dean always seems to make news.
IMO, even though the news organizations don't share his politics, they like him and want to book him on their shows. His appearances are always compelling.

12. Dean is not the only Democrat
in the world. There are thousands of other good Democrats out there. It doesn't matter that he's not the DNC Chair. In fact, an argument can be made he'll be more effective outside of that role.

14. This is about more than Howard Dean
Its about a Party that no longer represents the voices of the people that have supported the Democratic Party with their votes, their time, and their money.

Why in the name of all things good should we take our votes, time and money and leave OUR home?

We need to recognize that WE are the Party, that THEY are supposed to do what the hell WE want, and if THEY don't like it they can get the hell out of the Democtratic Party, because its OUR house. Why?

Because the Democratic Party is the Party of the People, and the people say so!

13. I like it. Let's do it.
One of the reasons I joined the Democratic party was because it's much easier to use a major party's body to make a change rather than trying to build up a minor party (i.e. the Greens).
