NYT David Brooks has Mea Culpa to John Kerry in column
Edited on Sat Nov-13-04 06:33 PM by RamboLiberal
Too late. Column is on war between Bush and CIA

Not that it will do him much good at this point, but I owe John Kerry an apology. I recently mischaracterized some comments he made to Larry King in December 2001. I said he had embraced the decision to use Afghans to hunt down Al Qaeda at Tora Bora. He did not. I regret the error.

What's Kerry actually talking about?

KING: Mount Holly Springs, Pennsylvania -- hello.

CALLER: Hello. Yes, I would like to ask the panel why they don't use napalm or flamethrowers on those tunnels and caves up there in Afghanistan?

KING: Senator Kerry?

CALLER: My golly, I think they could smoke him out.

KING: Senator Kerry?

KERRY: Well, I think it depends on where you are tactically. They may well be doing that at some point in time. But for the moment, what we are doing, I think, is having its impact and it is the best way to protect our troops and sort of minimalize the proximity, if you will. I think we have been doing this pretty effectively and we should continue to do it that way.

2. looks like there are some CIA people who are patriotic as hell
I mean that's a ridiculous article. Are Americans, even in the CIA
supposed to be silent while a radical administration who gained power
on propaganda techniques, gay bashing and abortion run the country into the ground?

I feel for those agents, but I don't see them violating their oaths
in these circumstances. I believe the oath is to the US constitution
and protecting the American people...not covering up for a radical
agenda, hidden from the people.

4. geez
Did you read the column? I'm stunned that he wants punishment for the CIA for undermining Bush in the campaign.

David, what if the CIA is right about foreign policy and Bush is wrong? Hmmm?

9. I hope patriotic CIA agents continue to leak the truth
but with Goss in charge I fear this won't happen.

7. Brooks can go Cheney himself
I doubt he'd be this magnanimous if Kerry were President-elect right now. "Gee, my hatchet job is no longer necessary, I guess I can apologize and all is forgiven."

It's not even a decent apology; can't you just hear the smirk in this phrase? "Not that it will do him much good at this point..." UGHHHH!
I hate DB and would happily dance on his grave.

8. I thought his article was way out of line.
Who does he think he is to call for "heads on spikes" and "salting" the ground?

10. Brooks should regret his entire f'ing career!

Corporate America controls the media and we get manufactured news.
Corporate America now controls the voting machines and we get manufactured elections.

13. David Brooks Reports. .
"As the presidential race heated up, the C.I.A. permitted an analyst - who, we now know, is Michael Scheuer - to publish anonymously a book called "Imperial Hubris," which criticized the Iraq war. Here was an official on the president's payroll publicly campaigning against his boss. As Scheuer told The Washington Post this week, "As long as the book was being used to bash the president, they gave me carte blanche to talk to the media"

David Brooks is a partisan hack of the highest order. "The President's Payroll -- Boss"?????

What happened to "of the people, by the people and for the people" ?

The government serves us, hence the term "public servants." They are not our bosses, we are not answerable to them. Michael Scheuer was serving us, the people, by trying in any way he could to warn us of the danger the administration is putting the lives of the American people in.

G-Dammit, this pisses me off.
