Media Matters for America, Media Access, and Democracy Radio have kicked off a campaign to support Representative Louise Slaughter's legislation bill that will restore the Fairness Doctrine, i.e. rules that require television networks to offer truly fair and balanced coverage of political issues. 1. In theory this sounds great,

but I would like to see some of the details. The web site link that describes the Media Act (HR 4710 IH) simply restores the act to its 1987 version. But just what does that mean? Just how will broadcasters be required to “cover important issues” and present them in a “fair and balanced manner”? Who decides what is important and who decides that it is fair and balanced?

How does this affect the Internet? Internet news sites? Internet radio?

I remember during the 1980 campaign TV stations wouldn't show "Bedtime for Bonzo" because that could be construed as supporting Reagan which means they would have to give Carter equal time.

I really think hate radio is the cause of most of the problems in the Country. The weak minded listen all day and night and only live to fight the fascist crusade against liberals.
