Gov. Phil Bredesen should be given a look for VP in 2008`
He is my Governor and is considered by many the best Tennessee has ever had. His approval ratings are around 75% and he is very likeable. I think he would bring some good ideas to our process in 4 years.

9. Ok, since I have worked with the guy
He is originally from NY. He is a businessman who ran for Mayor of Nashville and served two sucessful terms. In 2002 he won over a very popular Tennessee Congressman. Since being in office he has turned Tennessee's economy around 180 degrees. Instead of having to cut out very crucual programs such as head start, meal on wheels, etc, he practiced fiscal disicpline and we now have a projected budget surplus. Also, instead of drowning in debt as we were 3 years ago, our rainy day fund is the largest it has ever been.

Governor Bredesen has also reformed TennCare. After being abused by the preceeding Governor, Bredesen cutout loopholes, cut down waste, and is taking furhter steps in reforming the program and getting Tennesseans the healthcare they need.

Even Former Governor McWherhter has said Bredesen is Tennessee's best Governor. He is a moderate who favors the middle class and practices fiscal disipline and common sense, a perfect combonation for 2008!

3. I don't know him and I live in Ga. You've got to get him some exposure
NOW so there's at least 2 1/2 years to get recognized!

I agree that it's places like that we need to look for national candidates. Stay out of Washington! It's nothing but trouble.

4. If he's so popular..
could he possibly have a shot at winning the seat that Frist would supposedly be vacating in 2006?

We need every possible senate seat we can get our mitts on..

11. Isn't he originally from New York? Yet he got elected in Tennessee?
That is impressive, especially when you consider that even Al Gore couldn't carry the state. The guy was also a Dean-backer (sort of - stayed neutral)

My own thinking is that if the guy is as impressive as people make him out to be, he could make an excellent PRESIDENTIAL candidate. Now, I don't believe we should limit our potential nominees to the South - we should pick the best candidate, period, regardless of whether they come from Boston or Biloxi. But if the best candidate happens to be from the South, great!

Here's a picture:

One potential thing going against him (at least for me), is that "President Bredesen" doesn't roll of the tongue. Maybe it's just me, but I get tongue-tied trying to say it. Ah, hell.

13. He's from Mass- He's a great governor with no charisma
I'm a big supporter of Phil Bredesen- he's almost reclusive but he is solution oriented- he is a reluctant politician- It's hard for me to see him doing the requisite 2 year campaign to become president- He is not a southerner- but he did win by getting repugs to cross over

14. Too damn bad he wasn't seen this election!
Lot of us Dems here in TN are still pissed he made virtually no attempt to campaign on behalf of the ticket.

Also, if he shuts down TennCare as he is threatening to do by the end of the week... he's done! I realize he's been shoved into a corner by lawyers over kicking people off of it, most of whom should never have been on it in the first place. However many, many people in this state depend on TennCare including my parents. If they lose TennCare they will be in serious trouble. I have no idea how they will make it.

Bredesen is very popular here because he's doing a great job getting this state back in order but I have to be truthful his popularity is nothing compared to Frist's. Fucking people here think that asshole hung the moon!
