Ann Richards Speaks in Concord for Dean
Ann Richards Speaks in Concord
Posted by Timothy Jones
on Sun, 01/18/2004, 4:52 pm

Former Texas Governor Ann Richards spoke at a Women For Dean rally in Concord this morning. She was greeted by two standing ovations before she even took the podium. "I want you all to know if there was this much snow in Austin, Texas we would just shut it down," she told supporters. "The fact that you have turned out to hear me this morning? You need your head examined! It's cold out there!"

Richards quickly got serious: "This state is crucial to Howard. This state is so important in this primary that I want you to redouble your efforts by talking to people who have not yet reached a conclusion," she urged supporters.

"So that's why I came to New Hampshire," she said. "I have never come to New Hampshire for a candidate before... and yet I'll come up here and freeze to death to tell you that Howard Dean should be the next president of the United States.

"Howard kind of reminds me of Harry Truman. When I was a teenager, I met Harry Truman when he was president. When someone told Harry he was giving the Republicans hell, he said 'I don't give 'em hell- I just tell the truth on 'em, and they think it's hell.' That's what Howard does, and that's what Howards gonna continue to do."

3. You can get it on audio at the bottom of the article.

7. Extreme congratulations are due to Dean for this endorsement
Ann Richards is a classy, brassy, tried and true Texas progressive Democrat. Her endorsement makes me a hell of a lot more comfortable with Dean than I have been up till now. If she's on his side, then he's okay with me.
