I never thought I'd see a "Fighting and Acrimony" forum on DU
I don't know whether to weep or scream.

I haven't read any of the posts, but my wife just told me everyone on DU is upset and fighting each other over Kerry's concession speech. She also described the speech to me.

All I can say is that having to swallow this bitter pill tells me that my gut feeling about Kerry was right all along.

I could never get over the fact since October, 2002 John Kerry argued vigorously against the Iraq War Resolution and then voted in favor of it. I've never supported his excuses for it, his shallow arguments about it, and have never truly forgiven him for it. I supported his candidacy after he won the primaries, but sadly, this humongous "flip-flop" of two years ago has turned out to be the defining moment about his true character.

That's why I had my doubts about him when he declared his candidacy for President early on in the primaries - if not the first to do so, he was one of the first.

So when Howard Dean entered the race and called Dubya out in no uncertain terms about the Iraq war, and also called out the "spineless beltway Democrats" who voted for the IWR and other Bushie bills, I jumped on his bandwagon because here was a guy who not only had the guts to speak out about what was wrong but who didn't compromise his principles. And it didn't take a genius to know that John Kerry was one of the "beltway Democrats" Dean was referring to.

This country isn't ready for and doesn't yet deserve gutsy, principled people like Howard Dean. The media crushed him like an ant, and the Democratic voters in Iowa and New Hampshire turned their backs on him and handed us John Kerry.

I went to bed early this morning confident that Kerry and his legal team would fight to the bitter end on every front, not just regarding provisional ballots. I took him at his word when he repeated that he would fight until every vote was counted. I woke up to this hideous news and my stomach sank to my knees.

So Dean was right about Kerry. Kerry made more mistakes in his Presidential campaign than Dean ever made during the primary race, yet this concession speech really takes the cake. Dean never fucked up *this* big.

Color me disgusted.

Bye-bye Roe v. Wade. Bye-bye civil liberties. Bye-bye Constitution. Bye-bye American military lives. Hello draft. Thanks a bunch, John Kerry, you spineless bastard!

Prepare yourselves for utter hell, folks - Armageddon has arrived.

Beyond the above, I'm feeling speechless.

Feel free to commiserate or flame away. I guess that's what this thread's for.

2. Posts drop rather quickly here today.
I disagree that Dean would've worked. You can't yell and scream for a full year and expect people to keep listening to you. I liked his principals, I disliked his "aggressive early and often" strategy.

I fully agree Kerry should've fought this all the way. Seriously, what do have to lose at this point?

3. It really sucks having my worst fears confirmed...
About Iraq, our candidate, the election, and the intelligence of the American people.

It's so goddamn tragic. I'm sick of being right.

5. I guess I agree
I wouldve liked the CHANCE to vote for Dean, but of course that choice was taken away from me by the time the primaries got to FL.

We did not identify ourselves this election. We pointed out the flaws of *, but did not tell people what OUR values are. Moral Values - the #1 issue among voters, and 52% of the country thinks we have no moral values. That is why we lost.
