So, I guess Mary Cheney was the October Surprise, huh?
In exit polling, 22% of people stated "moral values" as a primary issue in their vote.

Moral values? What planet are these people on?

Not jobs. Not the economy. Not Social Security or Medicare. Not health insurance. Not even the "war" in Iraq.

Moral values.

How did we (not to mention the pollsters and the pundits) not anticipate the fact that more than one-fifth of the voters - more than 20,000,000 people - were going to vote based on "moral values"?

"Moral values" is basically code for "hey, which candidate is anti-gay? And anti-choice? Gotta vote for him!"

And, to reinforce this wonderful bigotry, all 11 states with anti-gay ballott issues jumped on the anti-gay-marriage bandwagon.

There is no doubt that America is becoming more conservative. We better figure out what we're going to do about it.

1. I always find it kind of odd...
...that this idea of Republican Morals does not include ethics.

It seems that it only matters what I do on my own -- I'm judged by the thoughts inside my head. YET, it makes NO difference how I treat others, as far as Xtian Republicans are concerned. They are all into this 'end justifies the means' thing -- totally situational ethics.

Yet this idea of 'morals' they have at the same time?....I've never really understood it.

Seems like just a control mechanism on their followers. Induce feelings of guilt, and then use it to control them (especially when they CHANNEL that guilt into hatred of others. Get it?).

One ripely fucked up nation, if you ask me.

4. I feel the same way. It's ok to kill tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians
as long as we "win" in the end.

You're exactly right - their definition of "morals" is inconsistent with the term ethics.

It's just a code phrase, like "states' rights". It includes gays and abortion, but that's about it. Everything else is filed under "faith".

2. Mary Cheney should be tossed out of any gay club she enters...
For being a collaborator in the oppression of her own people.

6. Mary Cheney is a money-grubbing Judas
Edited on Wed Nov-03-04 03:30 PM by theHandpuppet
She just collected $100,000 to pander votes from evangelicals who wouldn't permit her to even set a foot inside their churches and would just as soon burn her than look at her.

Her partner (who was onstage at the Bush "victory" speech) can be proud that Mary fought to make sure that the two of them can never marry and will forever be second class citizens in their own country.

Be proud, Mary -- you traitorous, hypocritical, self-loathing BITCH!!!

12. Gay people need to start fighting back on that...
Imagine if Mary Cheney walked into a bar or gay bookstore and people treated her like the way straight people treat us?

Teach her there are consequences to actions like that.

14. Yeah, I heard Halliburton's stock went up today...
... and I'm sure Mary owns plenty. All I can say is, on her next vacation may her car break down on a backroad in Alabama... at night... with the rainbow bumper sticker glowing in the dark and with a Melissa Etheridge CD blaring on the speakers. Welcome to your base, Mary!! Need a ride?

8. 25% of voters last night were evangelical Christians
I bet they make up almost all of that "moral" vote. They were voting moral values anyway.

11. WE need to define morality as a party
because it is NOT being defined correctly. There is nothing Christian or moral about putting corporations before people, dismantling our social safety net, watching as more people slip into poverty, not caring that more and more people lack access to healthcare. Nothing moral about it.

We need to make the American public understand this. We need a better message on this.

16. But the real Christian leaders...
... who truly try to follow in the footsteps of Christ don't own their own networks and schill their religion in crystal cathedrals or on the 700 Club. We need some truly ethical religious leaders of faiths other than evangelicals (or Catholics or Southern Baptists) to start making a public stand and put the teachings of Christ back into Christianity.

15.  Not exactly....
....she just fucks women. I'll reserve the word "gay" for those who actually promote equality for homosexuals.
