I will say it again! Looking for simple answers like Diebold is wrong!
The simplest explanation is this: The same socio-pathology that infected Germany in the 30's has infected America.

We have an overblown opinion of ourselves. We scapegoat the poor and minorities. We have propogandists and a ruling class that is feeding the masses what they want to hear. We have a military/industrial complex. We have the merging of politics and religion. We have disdain for intellectualism and human rights.

It's been simmering under this country since WW2. As long as we had the counterbalance of the USSR it was never allowed to get out of hand. Once that was gone, we found ourselves without direction and without a true enemy. That energy has now been utilized and directed in the most bastardized way imaginable.

I know that some people subscribe to the notion that Diebold robbed us, but I simply don't agree. Looking for a conspiracy there is a magic bullet and that way don't have to face the harsher reality of the situation as it truly stands: THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE IDIOTS AND GULLIBLE.

For the most part that is true. Look at the Red Scare. Look at how we massacred millions of indigenous Americans for manifest destiny. Package the most disgusting and vile thing in an appealing package and people will buy it. Wrap yourself in a flag and feed 'em apple pie and play off their fears of what is different and you will win everytime.

We need to stop looking for conspiracy theories (no matter how simple and appealing they are to explain that which we don't understand) and figure out how to counter the right wingers pr.

From where I stand, playing the role of blaming BBV for our losses is no different than the "They hate us for our freedoms" shit.

It's simplistic reasoning that doesn't allow us to look inside to see where the real problem is.

The guy in charge of Diebold has said
he would do everything in his power to deliver OH to Bush.
Well, I guess he did.
:eyes:
And you are suggesting that's not even worth looking into?
:nuke:

4. Perhaps, but there is a simpler explanation...
...I said I would do everything in my power to deliver the US from Bush, but that didn't include rigging voting machines or shooting republicans.

Just because a person makes a strong statement on a campaign trail it doesn't necessarily follow they meant rigging the vote.

There is a much a simpler explanation and quite honestly, knowing the attitudes of many otherwise intelligent Americans, including my "father-in-law" who knows full well his son is gay and votes republican and against gay marriage and lives in Cincinatti (the anti-porn city) I don't need to look any further than him to see what really happened.

3. But don't throw it out
It's still part of the picture. I agree though that the bottom line is we did not have the numbers. We didn't peel away moderate repugs as we needed to and they took as many independents as we did, when we needed a whole lot more. I think this election smells, even so, and all parts need scrutiny. However, even allowing Bushco to do its worst, our Dem ticket didn't draw the insulation (same as 2000) that could permit us to ride out the mischief. We needed a big big mandate and we didn't get it.
