Are you really thinking about leaving the Democratic Party?
I've started an off-site discussion list for those of us who think that it might be time to jettison the dead weight of our party (like Daschle and Gephardt, though thank goodness they're both gone now) and start fresh.

I'd like to decide whether we want to try and fight to take back control of our party, to guarantee no more Kerrys, or go off on our own.

If you'd like to join me in this discussion, please PM me and I'll send you a message with opt-in instructions.

2. I'm not conceding ANYTHING.
Yet, our party's "leadership" has just rolled over and play dead.

So the question remains, Rina, do we fight to reclaim our party from the people who foisted Kerry on us, and then refused to stand up for him, or do we leave them alone and go elsewhere?

I'm absolutely serious about this. The Democratic Party as it existed from 1992-2004 will die. It must die. We can't win by being Republican-Lite any more. So do we fight to take back our party, or start fresh?

Please join me. The solution is in colonizing the power structure that already exists. No more serving it...but owning it.

11. I'd rather plan for people like us to TAKE OVER the Democratic
party. Groups like League of Pissed-Off Voters and Democracy for America (Howard Dean's outfit) and the Green Party should work as allies in this effort.

12. I only just joined the party. And I'm not glad any Dem lost
their seat in the election - we need every one. However I would agree that we need to fire the DNC leadership and seriously shake the tree and reogranize and refocus, from the bottom up.

I will see what direction we go. I want to become a "values oriented party"....

Values in that it is MORAL to not wage war for oil, it is NOT moral to leave the weakest among us to slide through the cracks, it is NOT moral to execute men, it is NOT moral to use government force for revenge, it is NOT moral to base economic policies on greed, it is NOT moral to hate people because of who they are.

MORAL VALUES. Ain't got a damn thing to do with the freaking Pledge of Allegiance either.

20. Yeah...you bet!
The Democratic Party is a shell of what it once was. They went so far over to the middle that they forgot what "liberal" or "progressive" really means. They just want to stay in business to line their own pockets and get a few scraps of "pork" thrown at them if they are good to the Diners at the Trough.

The country needs a new, truly dynamic party to serve the IDEALS this nation was founded upon. I will never agin vote Democrat, causemy vote will be meaningless no matter what.

I was never there. _Might_ consider joining forces again in the
future, but I doubt I can talk any other Greens into voting Dem for prez again. Our party is dying off on acct of we didn't make the necessary percentage in so many states to remain on the ballot for future elections.

* is still in office. My party is dying.

Dang am I pissed!

29. Actually, I don't know
I supported Kerry the whole time every way I was able.

I have been exceptionally sensitive to the war, the invasion and the slaughter of human beings in Iraq and cannot believe hardly anyone is mentioning it but a few on DU. If we are to believe the reports, we have slaughtered 100,000 possibly more innocent people.

no mention of it anywhere else where it might count. I have come to the conclusion that peoplejust are not interested in knowing this.

For months I have been placing in my front yard, the numbers and the names of the fallen soldiers in large bold black letters. I don't know how many people read it as this is not a highly populated area especially in the winter, but it is meaningful to me to pay homage to them, even though I do not support the mission. So much suffering on the part of their families who will never be the same again.

I fully supported Kerry as a Democratic candidate even though I did have my doubts about his vote in the Senate.

I hear little about it from anyone except for the brave Dennis and Senator Byrd. Now of course, it is passe and we must all accept that we will be there for years and years in fourteen bases scattered around Iraq. I am not proud of what my country did there, yet, it will stand in spite of it's murky murderous beginning and NO ONE is going to give it back or apologize or acknowledge to those suffering people that what we did was reprehensible.

So, I don't really know how this will pan out as far as my support for any party. I am not a natural joiner and if that message is offensive to some, then just have this deleted. I do know I will never support any Republican ever from what I have learned on DU these past years.

32. I'll be a dem until I die
I could never consider the repuke party: the party of hypocrites, criminals and liars.

The other parties such as green and libertarian have little appeal to me.

Democrat is what I am and what I'll always be. It's in my blood.

33. Yes. I stuck around hoping to see change,
and I did my duty by supporting and voting for Kerry, as well as getting others to vote for him. However, my roots are much further to the tradional left. The Greens better represent my values. The SLP better represents my values.

So, with the exception of Dennis Kucinich, I can say that the Dems have fallen for the trap and moved proportionally to the right every time the Republicans yanked on the rope. It's not my party anymore and this election proved that voting doesn't seem to be the answer.

35. Who do you want?
What do you mean, no more Kerrys? You want somebody more liberal? Do you think that will help us win Ohio or Florida?

It's a numbers game, folks. The country is full of bigots and right wingers. To win a red state, we have to go centrist - Southern centrist. Otherwise, the very liberal candidtate will end up like Mondale.
