What happens to AAR?
Air America Radio was founded specifically to influence this election. While we can't say they had no effect - it's impossible to figure out what things might have been like if AAR hadn't gotten started - the fact is, the election did not go as we had hoped. So, will the money behind AAR stay there, or will they bail, deciding liberal talk radio just can't pay for itself?

Will Al Franken stay? He had committed only through the election. Now what?

AAR was not perfect, but it was a breath of fresh air in the talk radio miasma. I hope they all stick around and make it work.

1. It has to. We need it to help spread and refine our message.
It is our foot in the door. And progressives need to buy radio stations, and support think tanks that support scholars who can give us the rhetoric we need to build a democratic base.

3. AAR will be more successful and important than BEFORE the election.
Right Wing Talk Radio rose to power during the Clinton years, everyone.

When you're the opposition, you've got some real grit, some real beefs, and more balls than the ruling party. You can scream from the sidelines and people will turn to you, listen to you.

AAR will continue to receive my support, and I'll continue to listen every day until we OWN ourselves again!!

4. This is probably good for AAR
A win may have lead to complacency. AAR is needed more now to provide comfort and a rallying point.

5. Polarization of the American public will keep them going. They'll be fine.
Might have to change their name to West Coast & North East American Radio though: WCNEAR.

6. It grows.
Look at how RW radio grew during the 1990s, when Clinton was in office.

7. this could have easliy been a 56-44 blown for Bush
but that said, doesn't make it right, things stink to high heaven in OH and FL and although he is conceding. He can still fight on that the rest of the votes be counted and if things can get tight enough to force a recount have surrogates expose additional fraud.

yeah, it totally sucks that he'd have to sacrifice the presidency but if he can give Bush a black that he deserves then all the better.

he nows how to fight these kinds of bastards, he did it methodically with BCCI

10. I like Al
But as a radio host, he isn't the greatest. Sure, he's funny, intelligent, and does a good job, but there are other progressive talkers out there to replace Al if he does leave and run for the Senate as rumored. AAR will be just fine, they just need to get some affliates in the border-south states. I realize they need to rally the base, but you need converts. If we can get stations in the border-south and heavy red states, and Shrub falls on his face in the next four years, we may be able to pull this out. Unfortuneatly we also need a Southerner I believe. I have no clue who though. Edwards has too much baggage with being a *gasp* trial lawyer. Maybe Clark from Ark?
