With Daschale losing the sickening part about this is that anyone
running as a Dem will have been almost like a Republican. Dems will lose our identity in order win in this country. We must think of a strategy to overcome this turn to the right by our country and the policies that welcome RW, wealthy immigrants from former Fascist countries to become citizens with ease while preventing other immigrants from entering. Most of these people are settled in the mid-west and western states and hence their redness. Today is not the time to discuss this but start thinking about it. Perhaps an alliance with the Greens? I don't know but I just feel the American we used to know slipping away from us.

1. as much as i valued having one more dem senator
Ol Tom never seemed to have much of a liberal spine. he was a bush enabler far too much.
as long as we have to have a minority in the senate Id rather have one Obama than an aisle full of Daschles.

2. Losing Daschle was horrible

That basically means South Dak will be Republican forever.

5. Stephanie Herseth held her House seat.
Tim Johnson has SD's other senate seat. Herseth apparently got more votes than Thune did, which is interesting, in that, since SD only has one House seat, it means she ran statewide, just as did Thune. I suspect she has a good future in front of her.

4. Obama and Daschle are almost identical on positions.
Yet Obama is some kind of liberal he-man, while Daschle is spineless...

3. Slipping away? It's gone.
>> I don't know but I just feel the American we used to know slipping away from us. <<

This is a cultural war and my side lost. Hatred of gays, of liberals, of Muslims, of anyone who doesn't fit a narrow mold of Fundy Values will shape the national agenda.

Hit list: gays, atheists, greens, liberal Christians...

I'm at the front of the line, and fully expect my life to become increasingly uncomfortable. Just wondering how long it will be before my partnership benefits are taken away and my partner loses her health insurance.

6. Not entirely gone but slipping away fast.
We must begin with a new strategy immediately.
