ROFL, Mel Gibson asked by Hannity who he will vote for
Gibson then proceeded to tell him he had trouble with both candidates, specifically mentioning the war in Iraq and suggested he would write someone in. Pushed by Hannity, Gibson wouldn't even say who he was leaning to. Poor Hannity - he was begging.

14. Apparently they think they own Gibson, too....
He's too much of a maverick to be 'owned' by anyone.

6. Mel Gibson is a fundie, but he's not stupid.
I don't think he's a Bush supporter. At all.

8. Not a fundamentalist, either.
He's a conservative Catholic. Which means the fundamentalists probably think he's going to hell anyway.

9. You're right, I should have said that.
I know he's a Catholic, but I lump all conservative believers together under the fundie umbrella.

Very bad of tjdee. :(

10. I think you're right about his politics
Edited on Mon Nov-01-04 05:27 PM by NRK
In the Sawyer interview, he made a joke about WMDs...not like Bush's joke, though. I think the context was how he could get some personal privacy after all this publicity. His answer was to set up a tent next to the WMDs, where he'd never be found. Pretty funny, considering. (Pls correct if I've got this wrong)

13. I remember the comment too (in the interview)
I thought, "whoa" when I heard it, because it seemed so incongruous with his image of being a 'conservative'.

12. Mel a few months ago said he had problems with Bush
It came as a surprise to me, given his conservative bent. Apparently he has not changed his mind. I suspect Mel is not the only Fundie to wander off the Bush Reservation.

There was a thread on DU about him fighting against allowing stem cell research in California. Did he put money into that campaign?

23. Gibson's a lunatic
and he probably just wishes he had run.

See Aaahnold's weak-ass endorsement of Shrub.

Give him another 20 years to lose whatever edit function he still retains and he'll be just like dear old dad, the Holocaust-denier.

26. That's too "temporal" for Gibson, I would think.
With his brand of Catholicism, such an affair is quite subservient to greater spiritual questions. And for that matter, while he opposes abortion rights and embryonic stem call research, I'm sure he also agrees with the Vatican that unrestrained capitalism is barbaric and that the war against Iraq is cruel and unjust on all levels.

27. Sorry Sean
Catholic Doctorine is anti-War, anti-death penalty (Jesus, after all, saw first hand how the downside of capital punishment), pro-human rights, anti-poverty. Abortion and gay rights aren't the only things on the table. Plus, I've been to several different masses where priests have said that gay people are Gods children who need to loved and treated equally, that hate of any group is incredibly sinful. Only rightwing bigot clergymen tend to espose such hateful anti-gay rhetoric.
I don't really know what to make of Mel. His Dad is obviously a complete nutcase and truly evil person, but Mel himself could just be a very religious guy.
But anyway, you assholes don't own God, and Jesus was the original liberal, face it.

"It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." - Matthew 19:24
