1. better check election laws in your area
some places don't allow electioneering within a certain distance of the polls and sometimes t-shirts fall under that rubric.

2. Buttons, too - at least in Arkansas
Easier to take off a button than a shirt - esp for the ladies. Ha!

13. Its not electioneering if you are voting
only if you are working the polls
Check your local laws on this, but I dont think they can stop a voter from wearing what they want.

21. Sorry, but they can
You are considered electioneering or campaigning in most states if you wear something espousing a candidate or one side of ballot question even as a voter.

This is true in just about all states. But check with local officals to be sure.

25. you are correct....
and I started a thread earlier on this subject. We do NOT want anyone waiting in line for a long time only to find out they aren't allowed inside to vote because of having on a Kerry/Edwards Tshirt. PLEASE EVERYONE BE SURE AND CHECK YOUR STATE LAWS. I do not know of ANY state that will allow for this!

26. Not true..
For instance, there is a vote this year in Dallas that has something to do with voting for funds for a new Dallas Cowboy stadium and if you wear ANY Dallas Cowboy apparel, etc. you will be turned away as it's considered electioneering.

22. I just read a story about Georgia on my local news
about this very issue.

<snip>
GAINESVILLE, Ga. -- A man wearing a President George W. Bush mask and a John Kerry T-shirt at an election office was charged with disorderly conduct for breaking a law that bans campaigning outside polling places, police said.

Kevin Dodds also was charged with the seldom-invoked crime of wearing a mask. A Georgia law aimed at the Ku Klux Klan makes it illegal to wear masks except on "holidays and special occasions."

The case started Friday, the last day of Georgia's early voting period, when Dodds' wife went to vote accompanied by an infant wearing a Kerry-Edwards shirt. Poll workers asked the woman to turn the child's shirt inside out so she could remain and vote, but she allegedly refused and left.

Later that day, Kevin Dodds went to the polling place saying he wanted to protest the objection to the baby's shirt. A police report said Dodds stood outside screaming, sometimes using foul language, and refused requests to take off his mask.

Wear a black hoodie instead....a message to those in the know.

I don't think I would risk it. We need your vote too much. Campaigning is against the law within 40 ft of polls in Va.

16. you can't do that anywhere I know of
wearing visible slogans or anything for any candidate is called "electioneering", and is not allowed in a polling place. Cover it with a jacket or something while you are inside.

18. It will be too cold to wear a t-shirt in Minnesota
but at least it won't be snowing (in 1991 it started snowing on Halloween night and by the time it was over we had about 3 feet on the ground in the metro area. This year the predicition is temp in the 40's and fairly dry all across the state - Mother Nature has smiled on us this election day).

I will have my Kerry button on my coat.

23. You can not do it in Nevada
No buttons, shirts, posters anything. You will be asked to leave. I believe it is the same in all states except for the fact that the distance from the polling place changes, but in the polling place itself it is against the law.

because in most states and I believe it's true in VA that you CANNOT wear political tshirts, buttons, etc. I started a thread about this earlier and everyone agreed that their states have the same laws.

near or inside polling places. There may well be exceptions, but I wouldn't do anything like that, just to be safe.

32. Not allowed in Virginia - any buttons, slogans, etc are considered
electioneering and not allowed within 100 ft (I think) of the polling place.

At my GOTV meeting yesterday (I'm a volunteer driver) they reiterated this & suggested we wear our K/E stuff but have sweaters in the car to cover up when we escort people into the polls.

GOTV=Kerry Landslide!

38. Don't give them an excuse to stop you from voting
Here in Missouri it is illegal to electioneer within 25 feet of the polling place. They had signs up when I voted in the primary warning people not to display anything supporting any candidate. That includes pins, banners, and t-shirts. So even though you can't wear your shirt to the polls don't feel bad. We'll have at least 4 and hopefully 8 years to wear them after Tuesday.
