Bush is secretly talking about postponing the election.
This was from a freeper message and I'm pissed if he tries this.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1169252/posts?q=1&&page=51

This is all contingency planning. Admirable except that the media and Dems are placing a whole different spin on it, i.e., GWB is going to hijack the election process and declare himself dictator. They did the same thing with the internal administration memoranda on how to treat prisoners in the WOT. I don't criticize the planning but just the public vetting of it.
I just heard Ann Compton, WH reporter, on ABC radio news just say that the Bush administration was very nervous about an AQ attack during the election process similar to what was done in Spain, which turned the election result away from the incumbent. The message is that the GOP is concerned that if an attack by AQ occurs, it will affect the election negatively hence the need to postpone the election. Unbelievable!!!

11. President cant cancel the election
It takes a vote of Congress.

And the democrats could filibuster that.

15. Osama Bin Laden's Message.
B-)We should be hearing about what Osama is saying. I am concerned that he may have gotten a message out to his followers about what they are to do this weekend.

An additional thought. If the election were to be disrupted, don't you think it should be done before the election rather than the day of the election?

I am new to this. Please allow me time to get up to speed if I screw up.

19. Welcome, infusionman
You are doing just fine.

I think it would take something really HUGE to cancel the elections at this point. Something I don't even want to think about because I know I can't do anything about it.

Again, welcome.

3. Osama just told us he wasn't going to attack .
He left the choice in our hands.

Since the election is already in progress, an attempt to stop it at this point would lead to impeachment. Or dragging him out of the White House by main force which is what it might take, election or no election.

Let them talk. They do not live in the reality-based community.

Got that one from my uncle, retired Air Force officer. He said if he won't go .. "I hope they call me and say John, we need you to get that bastard out of there, and I'll yank him by the short hairs and throw his ass out."

I love my uncle.

32. Hate to break it to you, but that's not "I won't attack," that's...
"you are making us do this," which is your classic psychopathic defense. That said, it seems likely that they don't have anything for the immediate future planned (knock wood), or they'd just go ahead and do it.

33. Sorry I didn't make it clear, I was referencing the election
Since the topic was postponing the election from fear of terrorist attack.

And Osama made it clear he's letting us choose our fate. That's logical. Everyone is going to wait and see what Kerry does.

9. They are cute but...it was several days before the election
an "attack" on election day would actually favor Bush* and he knows it---or his controllers do. The "base" of lunatics and the greedy would crawl to the polls---they also were urged to mail in ballots and vote early in many places. Postpone it just a *little* bit and you have time to ask everyone to "come together"---be fast though boys, even my brother-in-law will be suspicious if you give him enough time to really *think* about it and stop waving his tiny flag!

If they were going to have an attack that transformed things it would need to be today or tomorrow with the voting going on Tuesday with everyone all "united". For one that just disrupts everything and buys them time? ..yeah, Tuesday a.m. would do it.

To Lurking Freepers:
Yes, evil Democrats are saying bad bad things. I sit in Lubbock and say those things (being a Dem here is like "one hand clapping!"). That's right Freepers, I'm a dangerous woman with vast powers: I'm a Democratic voter!!!!!!

21. The Daily Howler does an excellent debunking of the Spanish election
...How did the final vote come out? You’d want to know this if you wanted to judge the role played by the bombing...according to the (New York) Times:

1. In the final poll, on March 7, the Popular Party led, 42-38.
2. On March 14, they ended up losing, 43-38.

Forget whether he can do it. He probably can find a way if there's no clear law. But to do so disrespects the people of this great land. I, for one, would vote no matter what. It is not only my right. It is my duty. And I'll bet any *real* American thinks the same.

38. Freepers have a habit of updating old stories as "breaking news" ....
First reported here:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A44676-2004Jul12.html

On the other hand, from the Yurica Report, (possible tinfoil?)

Infiltrating the U.S. Military
Gen. Boykin’s “Kingdom Warriors” On the Road to Abu Ghraib and Beyond
October 12, 2004

http://www.yuricareport.com/Dominionism/InfiltratingTheUSMilitaryGenBoykinsWarriors.html

Katherine Yurica: "Lastly, because I believe America stands in peril from within itself far more than from any outer enemy, I want to end this news analysis with this story: On August 19th 2004, Alex Jones, a colorful libertarian radio host, who broadcasts in nineteen states and can be heard on the web over the Genesis Communications Network, conducted an interview with an officer who was identified only as “David.” The officer also did not want his military unit identified. Though he spoke anonymously, he had a great deal of credibility. The officer’s military unit issued a training manual which he in turn gave to Jones. Although we attempted to obtain copies of pages from the manual from Jones, our request was not answered. The Yurica Report transcribed the interview and here is an excerpt of it. It appears that the governors of 30 states are preparing their militia for martial law in the event of an emergency."

Jones: “Why are you concerned about the military manual?”

David: “The fact the State Guard has traditionally never been armed. Yet there’s extensive fire arms training in that manual. And the use of force: the handcuffing and the prisoner transport--”

Jones: “In fact, right here, ‘Movement of Prisoners, How to Take Over City Hall.’”

David: “Yes. That is the required training for the proposed team members.”

Jones: “You told me this is a force multiplication training group to train the rest of the military, correct?”

David: “Eventually what we were told was the entire State Guard would receive this training. But as of right now, only select individuals are to receive it.”

Jones: “What do you think of this whole atmosphere?”

David: “It’s a very dangerous atmosphere, Alex. …The time it’s going to take for all these teams to be trained, outfitted and deployed is November 1, this year <2004>. And we’ve been told it’s not if, but when we are deployed. And we will be deployed after November first.”

Jones: “In America?”

David: “Yes. In the State of Texas.”

36. Fascinating Constitutional Question
If * tries to postpone the election, he will be violating a law that has been in effect since 1845. Article II of the constitution states that Congress shall direct when the electors are chosen, and in 1845 they passed a law stating that it must be on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of a year whose number is wholly divisible by 4. So, the question is: No matter what happens, does the President have the ability to circumvent this law that was passed under a constitutional directive?
