Please help reassure me about something!
Edited on Sat Oct-30-04 02:00 PM by Stew225
I listened today to a tape of Mike Malloy last night and then the tape went bad after some guy, a software designer, told Mike that he thought that the Bin Laden thing was part of a scripted rationale to be used in conjunction with touch screen rigging. He said that 30% of the nation votes on touchscreens and, since there's no verification, it will be rigged. Gee, ya think the repugs would do something like that?

He went on to speculate that he thought it would give shrub the victory and the Bin Laden tape would serve to rationalize the dramatic turn-around Shrub makes from the ongoing poll results. Our asshole media would simply say that people had terra on their minds when they voted and felt Shrub would protect them better. In other words, the Bin Laden thing was an orchestrated Rovian cover/explanation for the touch screen riggings that would give * a landslide victory.

Now, bear with me. I've felt better and better about our chances with every passing day. I need your thoughts on this nightmarish scenario, however. I'm only human and feel like an expectant father in regards to this election.

The last thing I heard Mike Malloy say on the show, or the tape of the show before it broke, was that he didn't agree. Anybody know what he said afterwards?

I have never wanted a candidate to win more than I want Kerry to win! I have contributed a lot to the campaign despite some personal trauma my family has been going through. I can't imagine Kerry not winning.

Our election system is so screwed up that I try not to think about it. When I do, however, I get very, very nervous. Obviously.

1. I doubt that the bin Ladin tape will suffice as 'justification' of a bush*
win since it shows what a failure bush* is and that it's just pissing people off that he's in a nice cushy place dressed to kill and making threats against this country.

The majority of the people in this country are quite that stupid. Just bush* supporters, and they have become a minority.

6. But the point is
that the RW spinmeisters would inflate the tape's importance as an issue after the fact, using the "suprise" Bush win as evidence that the tape really was important, when really the "win" was based on voting machine fraud.

I wish I could reassure you that this scenario isn't possible, but we have the evil twins of Rove and proprietary software running machines with generally no paper trail.

If only the margin could be large enough to overcome this crap! I'm very nervous.

2. nothings analagous to losing a child
i know you are very worried, the bbv is very scary, but that was just stupid. obviously you have no clue what it is to suffer that kind of loss. think about an edit, perhaps a limb instead of a child? i know you meant no harm.

7. Sorry about the improper analogy.
In the last two months I almost lost one of my children. He did survive so that should give me more of a proper perspective on this whole thing. That's for calling this to my attention.

8. it's nothing to talk lightly about, apology accepted.
glad your kids okay now.
the bbv thing is the only thing that could go wrong now, so naturally it's going to be a big concern. luckily a lot of people are mobilising to watch the count, and if it's fishy we will hear about it.
i'm feeling a landslide coming on, and pushing the bbv issue out of my head for now.

I can't believe there are so many unpredictable variables in this election. How did it come to this?

5. Whether you are a Christian or not, St Francis prayer has wise words

Voting your conscience, whatever it tells you, is something you can control, and whatever happens, no one can take away from you the knowledge that you did that.

What politicians and lawyers and judges and corporations do, are not things you can control, at least not you alone, and the Washington mall contains less people protesting politicians today than Boston contains people celebrating a ball game.

Therein lies the wisdom to know the difference.
