Here's the letter I wrote--THE NEW YORK TIMES editor called today about publishing it, but they require exclusive rights, and I'd already submitted it to major daily papers around the country.
To Undecided Voters: Respectfully submitted for your consideration
If you're still undecided at this late date, consider this: Barring a compelling reason not to do so, it's always a good idea to vote for the party that's out of power in order to keep our system of checks and balances working.
Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Our founding fathers carefully constructed a constitution embodying these checks and balances to keep this country free by diminishing the chances that any one group would be able to acquire total control of the government. Yet, with this election, all that could change. Republicans are now in control of both the administrative and legislative branches of government--and if Bush is reelected, will be able to take control of the judiciary as well.
Thank you for considering my argument, and may you rest easy with your decision, whatever it is.
Having read the letter, if you'd be willing to help me get it out by emailing it to dailies in your state--or anybody's state--please contact me here or at lfs@megagate.com.
