Kerry Leads 45-38 in New Jersey
Poll: Kerry Holds Edge Over Bush in New Jersey

Oct 29, 2004 2:46 pm US/Eastern

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) John Kerry is apparently ahead of President Bush among likely voters in New Jersey, with the Massachusetts Democrat holding a 45-38 percent edge in a poll released Friday.
But 11 percent of people surveyed in the Fairleigh Dickinson University's PublicMind Poll said they remained undecided.

Bruce Larson, professor of political science at Fairleigh Dickinson University and survey analyst for PublicMind, said Kerry appears to have New Jersey locked up because undecided voters typically vote for challengers. "Based on the poll results, it's difficult to construct a scenario where Bush wins the state," Larson said. "Essentially, undecided voters would need to turn out in large numbers and break two-to-one for the president. This would defy the norm that late undecideds typically support the challenger."

The PublicMind tracking poll of 549 likely voters has a sampling error margin of plus or minus 4 percentage points. It was conducted from Oct. 21 to Oct. 28. Two percent said they would vote for Ralph Nader or other candidates.

4. A lot of "undecided" are people who just don't want to tell
who they are voting for because many, many voters consider that a secret they need not tell anyone. I have run for office and can tell you that sometimes people won't even let their spouse know how they voted let alone some stranger on the phone.

But I live in NJ and frankly think Kerry will win quite handily.
