11. I don't think Schilling has that much influence.
And I do think that Schilling made an ass of himself by taking advantage of a big moment to "schill" (I know how to spell it) for Bush. Took away from the focus on baseball and probably soured as many people on him as he impressed.

sent him running. I think angry potential sponsors were burning up the phone lines with his agent yesterday. Money talks.

14. What happened on GMA?
What did he say? I'm obsessed with this election and I missed it. Perhaps those that are not paying much attention did not see it either. I mean I heard he said he supported Bush but is there more to this story?

39. Yes and too
bad he allowed himself to be used by *. That's exactly what happened. * called him and thanked him and "by the way, can I use you in my campaign?" I think Schill agreed before he thought about it, honestly.

15. Sports and politics in Boston is a serious business
we let politicians (dems and repugs) root for the home team but most athletes wait till their careers are over to interject themselves into local politics

This is very local

18. His Statement
Here is apparently what he has said about it:

"I am now not medically cleared to do anything until I see Doc on Sunday, so I cannot travel with President Bush tomorrow (Friday). Second, while I am a Bush supporter, and I did vote for him with an absentee ballot, speaking as I did the other day was wrong. While I hope to see him re-elected, it's not my place, nor the time for me to offer up my political opinons unsolicited. I am proud we have the right to vote, and the message I wanted to send but didn't, was that regardless of who you are voting for the bottom line is that you MUST vote. You must vote because there are millions of Americans who have given their lives before us, and will continue to give their lives after us, so that we can remain free to make the choices we need to make when it comes to electing our Nation's leaders."

I respect and accept his mea culpa, as a Red Sox fan.

but I'm still pissed that you almost ruined this for me after 44 years of being a Red Sox fan. Savor that winning feeling right now because it's only going to last(for you) until Tuesday.

31. Boston -- on the verge of hometown World Champions and a President...
at the same time. It was a slap in the face of that town, a glass of ice water thrown on a victory awaited for decades. I'm glad he changed his mind. My best friend there is still floating on air, from the Sox win, and expects to stay up there through Kerry's victory celebration, crowding those historic streets.

42. Making that statement in a state that overwhelming votes Democratic
and in a region-with the exception of Cow Hampshire-that is very liberal was not too smart. Maybe he didn't realize that there are very few rich fundies in New England.

33. I thought it was stupid of him to do this, considering...
Massachusettes is a Blue state and I'm sure most Red Sox fans are Dems. Never in this man's life has he been adored as much by baseball fans, and on the day after they win the WS, he decides to make an unpopular political statement on national television. This guy is a joke.
