Bloomberg: Bush Courting MI Votes to Hedge Ohio and Florida!!
Bloomberg News is a cable financial news network. It has a "news blurb" (as opposed to a ticker) on the bottom of it's screen and sometimes is a bit hard to understand their "gist". However, I find it rather straight up with the "poop" and stripping away the spin because people coming there want news in order to invest and would be turned off if their news was overly slanted. There was an interesting blurb today.

It said that Bush is "courting Michigan voters to hedge results from Ohio and Florida" (their words). What do you think this means?? I took it as meaning they are not liking the news out of these states and are looking to lose at least one and, therefore, looking for Michigan as the 'replacement'. What I find interesting, though, is that they mention Florida. I could see if they said they were hedging Ohio with Michigan because polls around here at DU suggest that Ohio could very readily go Kerry next Tuesday. But why the inclusion of Florida?? Polls seem to indicate everything is fine there for Bush and, of course, the fact that Jeb will "fix everyting" anyhow. Is it that they are afraid that Jeb may not be able to fix it??

Anyway, what do you think this 'blurb' means???

2. Midwest--now it makes sense with the Michigan thing because I
just can't believe that Michigan is any toss up state. It's going Kerry. But they are trying to even out some electoral damage and that's why they are also laying into several other states like Iowa and Wisconsin. P.S. As a midwest transplant, myself, where are you originally from. Lot of this midwest stuff just doesn't make sense to me unless these people have changed a lot since I left!!!

3. I heard this same thing from the Hotline guy on CNN. So the Bush
campaign must be feeding this theory to the media.

4. Snippy -So, do you think they are really worried or what??
I can buy into an Ohio panic but why the hell are they talking Florida?? That one smacks of "innocent as the new fallen snow" cover up as they OF COURSE take Florida after fucking with all the Dem voters!! Wonder what the truth is???

5. I don't know. But I do know that Bush is making a huge and overt effort
to suppress minority turnout in both Florida and Ohio. The GOP has been much more open about this effort than it ever has been in past elections. I don't think that the GOP would be working so hard on suppressing minority turnout unless they were worried. I also know that the GOP is stunned by the early voter turnout in Florida.

On the other hand Bush, is devoutly committed to always, always always lying about everything. So it is very likely they are lying about this.

6. Rove wanted to trade Pa. for Ohio

I think late last week they saw Ohio drifting away, and Rove originally wanted to try to sneak in thru the backdoor by snagging Pa., which would have actually been a net of 1 in EVs for Bush (21-20). Once Pa. fell away early this week, Rove was forced into total hopscotch mode -- the upper Midwest is their only possible insurance now against an inevitable 270 for Kerry. Call it the "Minnowamichconsin" hail mary, with a ridiculous, wasteful feint to NH mixed in.

7. Come to think about it
I know politicians would love to get everything they can but then there is also making sure you have enough to win. Soooo, if Bush is pretty certain about Florida and Ohio then he would not be wasting a moment in Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan. With Florida and Ohio sowed up and usual glut of the dumb as whale shit south and western states, he could just pour EVERYTHING into Ohio and Florida to make 98% sure into a 100% sure. So something is making his campaign skitterish. They think something is going to be lost which would, of course, be Ohio since they know they have Florida bought and paid for.
